Just got off emory's waitlist!!!!!

<p>I am confused, I am glad to have gotten off Emory's waitlist, but I don't know if I should go...I mean I have to pay full 50,000 to attend, but my efc was only 25,000.....My state school total cost is only 20,000....The other thing is, what if I am the dumbest kid there..I mean I didn't get in, in the first round. I have never visited the school....I plan on doing pre-med, so gpa is a BIG BIG thing for me....I want to major in Economics....I hear theres grade inflation at Emory, but what if I can't make the grades...I mean I wasn't even top 10 percent in high schoool....Emory only has a 50 percent pre-med acceptance rate too....Its also very far from home....</p>

<p>These are my high school stats:</p>

<p>1470/1600 on sats (critical reading and math), a 2170(overall)...1930---the first time...</p>

<p>Gpa - 3.8 unweighted, with a 4.1 weighted
10 A.P.s and 7 honors classes...</p>

<p>Class Rank-Top 20 PERCENT....</p>

<p>These are my high school grades...I am showing these, because I don't know if I have what it takes to do well at Emory....(I mean if I end up with a 3.0 I can't get into Medical School)</p>

<p>You weren’t waitlisted because you can’t handle the work…You were waitlisted at the time because Emory had enough people from Texas with your particular profile (or so they thought?)…that being said, this is a financial decision…Emory is a great school, but is it worth that much money for undergrad when you plan on med school?..and then there’s that GPA issue…but your decision…</p>

<p>Did you show any interest? If not that is another reason you may have been waitlisted. </p>

<p>But with regards to premed, it will be difficult wherever you go. Successful applicants are typically those that easily ace their high school courses, particularly math and science. </p>

<p>btw, Econ also requires a strong math background.</p>

<p>^^^ not true…My friend didn’t show any interest…he didn’t interview, he didn’t visit, and he decided to choose his state school over Emory…he also had a 2350 on the sats, with a 4.0 gpa…his rank was top 5 percent at an elite prep school…</p>

<p>^^I have been owning A.P. Biology, I haven’t made anything below a 100 on the tests in that class, the average grade in that class is a 70…our salutorian who is going to Yale is also in that class…Calculus is a pain in the asss…</p>

<p>The thing is, I had applied for FA, but after I was waitlisted, I took myself off FA…The week after I took myself off Finanical Aid, my parents investments in the stock market and real estate started going down…I don’t know if I can still afford Emory…</p>

<p>what’s not true colleges? That Emory does not care about demonstrated interest? Sure they do, and they so state on their website. It doesn’t mean that you HAVE to show interest, but if you are just an average candidate for Emory, it helps big time.</p>

<p>^^^ I think what colleges was trying to say was, that interest is important ot Emory, but if you have exceptional stats, and you show no interest, you still have a VERY GOOD chance of getting in…</p>

<p>Anyone know what I should do about the FA situation?..should i contact them and ask them if there is still some aid left? lol…I guess I can ask my parents if we can still pay full after they lost a lot of money in stocks and real estate in the past 3 weeks…hopefully I can still afford the full cost, and eventually attend Emory next fall…REALLY WANT TO GO TO EMORY!!!..</p>

<p>^just call the FA office and ask them for the status of your FA and if they say anything you should say that you need it and blah blah…doesn’t hurt to try right? lol</p>

<p>Any Emory students willing to tell me how hard they work to maintain a 3.8 gpa…I NEED A 3.8 SCIENCE, and overall gpa for medical school, otherwise my parents are going to take me out of Emory, and make me go to a foreign medical school (ie Carrabean)…How willing are professors to change a grade to an A if you truely worked hard in the class, but couldn’t do well in the class?</p>

<p>During the accepted student visit the career counceling office mentioned 83% of their students with a 3.5 or higher GPA and a 30+ MCAt got into a med school. It was also mentioned thay had a 93% succes rate for those applying to law school.</p>

<p>I decided on Gtown so maybe a space will open for somebody else. </p>

<p>Got the call this morning, I’m into Emory as well :)</p>

<p>Going to have to see what financial aid I can still get before I decide though as I have a full ride to Lehigh University waiting… decisions decisions.</p>

<p>So where did you end up going? Should have gone to A&M - much less expensive. Get top grades there and you’re off to the races. Students should only consider good in-state schools and the top private schools, like Ivies, in order to make college worthwhile. Good in-state schools because they’re cost effective and Ivies because of the recognition and network. Those middle private schools like Emory and Vanderbilt don’t have national or international names and are friggin expensive.</p>

<p>Oh, man, I can’t compete with some of these kids. I go to a rural public school with almost no AP’s. I do everything I can and my test scores are good, but I have nothing on that curriculum.</p>

You’re evaluated in context of your school. A counselor fills out a school report indicating which classes were offered. The thing is, most people at Emory came from one of two school types: good suburban publics/charters or private schools, hence why they could take a lot of APs, they were offered. I wouldn’t stress too much if y ou took the most rigorous course load available.</p>

<p>Anecdote: My friend goes to Columbia and one of his best friends is from rural Kentucky and took one AP. Had he done that at my high school, he probably would have been rejected. But since that Kentucky high school only offered one AP, he could get in since he took the most rigorous course work available.</p>
