Just got rejected...Now what?

I was just rejected from the only internship I applied to for the summer at the National Organization for Women. I'm a sophomore sociology major interested primarily in legal ethics and womens issues, but I would be happy to find a summer opportunity that has anything to do with law or some cool non-profit. I feel like I'm up the creek without a paddle though because it's so late in the year. If you have any ideas I would really appreciate it.

Also, I'm planning to go to law school, so if you can suggest any other type of specific meaningful activity (I've already thought broadly about traveling and stuff), that would be great too.

out of curiosity why did you only apply to one internship? I know I applied to at least 10 or so back in February/March.

I would say google is really helpful. I googled my area with internships and found a site through a local paper where I live that lists a bunch of internships by type. See if that helps. Also at this point you might have to just cold call companies and see if they want help, even free labor. Experience, after all, is better than nothing.

welcome to the real world of jobs and internships. To be successful, you must accept your rejections and just keep applying. If you do not get a response after 10 internships, apply to 20. If you don’t get a response after 20, apply to 30. It is very difficult for everyone right now and you must persevere. Even the most successful people get rejected. so its not a big deal.

It doesn’t matter how late you are, just keep on applying for next semester if you have to. Work isn’t like school that stops when summer comes. its something that you do all year round.

I got an unpaid internship at a law firm during my sophomore year of high school. Shouldn’t be that hard. Just call around, send some e-mails, etc.
