So I had my ED interview (they have to be in by Dec. 1st) yesterday outside of Barnes and Noble. The time pretty much flew and before I knew it, it was dark outside- lasted an hour and 15 minutes. We talked about probably 8 or so books, Jack and Bobby on the WB (lol), Columbia of course, Model United Nations, and Journalism writing ( I left him with copies of movie reviews I had written). Afterwards, I sent him a short thank you email saying, "Thank you for taking your time to interview and talk with me about Columbia. I greatly appreciate it and am thankful for your time. You truly did consolidate my feelings about Columbia, and now, I am even more steadfast in my commitment and excitement towards Columbia. Thank you again."

And he replied back with: I enjoyed our interview, as well. If you are
accepted, I know you would fit in and enjoy Columbia
as much as I have. Perhaps we'll meet in future years
as alumni.

On any event, I know you have a bright future ahead,
and I wish you the very best."

I guess that's a good thing; Why would he say that if he wasn't going to write me a good recommendation. I'm just happy everything I have to do is over..

congrats! sounds like it went really well

wow... so they are due dec 1st eh?
and that's when nov SAT scores are mailed out.
So I guess Columbia only really makes those final decisions last minute...
Hope they make the 'right' decisions..

haha if by right decisions you mean deciding to accept us, then me too!

Uh huh! I agree..
Ever seen SUCH dedication and obssession to the school? lol.

Guys.... do you think that there will be SOME ED applicants.. who aren't really 'bothered' too much about Columbia?
Like they don't have the passion and obssession that we all have.. And they just applied because they did...

See if these half-hearted people get in... and we don't. I am gonna be sooooo ****seeeeed

Oh, can anyone predict the future?

Who's gonna get in?

silver_wavez....i'm probably one of those people. I mean i love columbia and right now i want more than anything to get accepted, however i know that life goes on and that i'll find a college that works for me no matter what happens dec 10th. i didnt apply just because i picked columbia randomly....i truly love the campus, the school, the core, the city, etc, but i know that admissions can be pretty random, so i have no idea as to what will happen with my app.

I am definitely one of those people. I am still not entirely decided whether Columbia or Georgetown is better for me, so I don't really see a point in being overly excited.

david and alex... you're definitely one of those what people? huh?
so you think you're def gonna get in?

anyway... i genuinely love, adore and worship columbia too. i couldnt give a flying f whether it was ivy or not. (or whatever prestige and status it holds)

no no no silver...i was responding to a post you made about people who wont be "bothered" too much by not getting in to columbia...my post was basically saying that i know how random admissions can be and that I truly have no idea what my chances are, so Ill obviously be sad if i dont get in, but it wont be the end of the world.

yeh.. but i was kinda talking more about people who have applied that are not that bothered about going there.
like they just applied cus ed improves chances and columbia's a good school that kinda thing..
like they're not that into columbia.. no obssession or nething...

you're not going to find them on this board

Freakish, are you in for journalism too??? Everyone else here is all gung ho for physics n such. It's so nice to hear from somebody thats a potential english major at columbia. I was beginning to think they didnt exist!!

Yeah, Im SORT of a potential english major, I guess you could say. They don't have a journalism major and I dont know if I'd want to do that, and I probably won't do english because I dont know if I'll enjoy that, but I'll be looking at English, Film Studies, Psychology, and Political Science.

Well, actually, I think my chances are pretty slim, as are everybody's.

It's simply that Columbia seemed like a better option for an ED application (significant difference between RD/ED admission rates) - I like the school, of course, but not to the point of obsession. There are many bad things about - for example, its science-heavy core curriculum and a lack of real credit given for my 14 AP exams that I will have taken by the end of my HS career. In contrast, if I go to Georgetown, I'll be done with the entire General Education science/math requirement and the entire history requirement, as well as, I believe, a good portion of the literature requirement. In other words, I won't have to solve a calculus problem ever again, unless I freely choose to take a couple Econ classes or major in Political Economy. There are plenty of bad things about Georgetown also - particularly its wasted campus - , but there are enough reasons not to be obsessed in Columbia. I truly fail to see how anyone can be obsessed with something he/she had never experienced in depth.

I'm a potential English major toooo! :)

english major here too
