Just had my interview and............

.............it did not go the way i wanted it to. To be honest, I was really disappointed with the questions my interviewer asked me. I thought it would be an interview where they get to really know me as a person. I was able to describe my passions and pursuits in Princeton, what i found appealing about princeton, etc...., but she also asked me about my sat scores and gpa, etc. When i told her about my passion for research, she made me describe my entire project, which was such a waste of time. Also, she asked me about current events and i had no freakin idea what do say, so i said that i never thought about it..... and when she asked me what my favorite NOVEL is, i said, Silent Spring (nonfiction)! Dammit!

I thought that on the one hand, i really showed why i liked princeton and what i cared most about, but on the other side, i showed how much of an idiot i was by not being able to answer questions. She even asked me if Princeton's eliminating the ED system was a good choice or not, and what i would propose to be the best solution in selecting students for college admissions other than through sat, gpa, ECs, etc. wise. Who the heck would ask something like this???? I honestly did not like my interview experience at all...... Im not sure how this will affect me, and I really want to go to Princeton...............

aoshi- it looks like you were prepared for only a limited domain of questions- like 'why princeton', 'what are your passions' blah blah- and became uncomfortable when your interviewer went beyond that domain...

Anyway, the interview isn't a significant factor in determining admissions, compared to your stats and essays. So you should be fine!

Btw, you look to be the first person on this board to have taken an interview

i mean my brother had his interview wiht columbia and his experience was really good. he talked about "why columbia" and "what are your interests". and basically the interview took 30 minutes, getting to know my brother. on the other hand, my interview took 1 hr and 15 min! the "why princeton" and "your interests" went great, but the extra stuff didnt go as well i wanted to. she also asked me the "what would u want to be doing 20 years from now" and "if you had no responsibitilies...." and those were fine, but i guess just the current event question killed me..... i dunno. I just hope my interviewer focuses on my passions and pursuits for Princeton..................

omg i got asked the same questions (about current events and how we felt about the ED thing). weirddd. but i think my interview went pretty well. sorry to hear about yours.

so do you guys mind if you post the questions asked during the interview???

i thought my interview went "pretty well" too, like i got say everything i wanted to, but its just the current event part which i didnt know what to say. she said its fine i couldnt answer it, its just not my thing, but still... i hope she focuses her recommendation on the things i answered well on. cookiemunster2 how was ur interview experience? did u get stuck on some questions like me? lol

I don't mean to be harsh, but the elections were on Tuesday, they culminated in a huge shift in Congress, Rumsfeld resigned, and you couldn't think of anything to say? I can't imagine that she was looking for in-depth analysis, but I can't blame her for wanting to see if you were aware of what was going on -- here on campus, people have been talking about nothing but the election since Tuesday, and if that sort of engagement with what's going on isn't your thing, there may be a problem with fit.

thanks for sharing!

ya this is really useful thx.

for those of you who already had your interviews, mind telling us the first letter of your LAST NAME?

i wanna know if the interviews are carried out alphabetically.

hbarns she didnt ask me about the elections, she asked me about something else. i did say "something" about it, but then eventually she got to a point where i didn't really know anything about in that topic.

pk my last name starts in the beginning of the alphabet, but ive seen other students in my area with last names starting with R, S, T, Z interviewing as well.

haha i'm scared now, i'm leaving for my interview in about five minutes. but my interviewer seems really down to earth, so i think it'll be fine.

by the way, my last name starts with an I, but i doubt the interviews are being carried out alphabetically.

from what i know, it seems that there's this "alumni association" sort of thing in each area, and they send out emails to all the kids at the same time/around the same time.

i also got asked about international current events which i just replied with the iraq war....lol. aoishi how long did yours last? mine was an hour and 20 minutes.

mine was about 1 hr i think, but agh wutever. interview isnt that big of a deal anyway, i dun know why im concerned about one little aspect of it. i thought i shined on all the other parts so i shouldnt worry!

Mine was two hours. Is that unusual? My interviewer just kept asking me if I had anymore questions and I kept saying yes.

11Argon, you probably annoyed them so much. Poor interviewer just wanted to get home already! :D

Seriously though, I tend to think that longer interviews reflect better, since it demonstrates that you both had topics to discuss.

See, thats why I browse BBC.com everyday. As a wise man (I think it may have been Confucious?) once said:

Don't some other people want to tell us all about their interviews?? Please?

Comfort for those who may not be contacted for an interview--

My 2 sons (from a CA public high school) are at Princeton and were never

contacted for interviews.

I think that wise quote comes from schoolhouse rock.

PrincetonMomof2, where did your kids apply from? Which state? and did they Early Decision?
