just had my interview

it really was completely informational.. haha they weren't kidding.

nice...im kinda nervous cuz i have mine in 2 days...

yea it was pretty laid back.. we probably spent half of the time talking about other schools. He said more things about Ohio State then Penn haha. Probably making me feel better if I didn't get in, but I dunno it made sense what he said. It will definately make me feel alot better if I don'tget in.

do people have different interviewers/interviews based on what school within penn they are applying to? i.e. if one kid from a school applies to cas and another kid from the same school applies to wharton, will they get different interviewers?

I think it depends on your region. You get whoever is closest to you.

my guy was a wharton grad so i am guessing it is jsut whoever is closest is who you interview with. haha if you really want an interview.. don't .. he made me want to go to Penn less. He straight up told me that he would rather hire a Big Ten Grad in the top 10% of his class then a Ivy Leaguer in the middle 50% range.. kind of depressing. I mean i applied ED already so it doesn't matter but he really put a realistic outlook on it. A grad who used to be on the Alumni board.. telling me the disadvantages of penn. I dunno if I had a rare experience( or he was sending me a message haha) but it was really enlightening ( in a way that isn't favorable towards penn).

What kinds of disadvantages did he point out?

he said it looks a lot better for grad school is you are top 10% at a big ten school then being top 40% at Penn.. he also said that Penn's alumni netweork sucks and I wont find people who will want to hire me because of a "penn connection" but he said that the firm he works for ( a very nice prestigous firm.. with lots of big puffy chairs) loves hiring osu grads becuase a lot of the partners there either came from osu or are big osu f-ball fans. He said that the diversity and college experience at Penn isamazing, but for grad school and job hunting you are actually better off at a big ten. Not to mention you can probably go to a big ten school for a fifth of the price in most people's cases.

So, how did you get your interview set up? Is there some cite to go to, or did you just get a random email?

You act like you know you will be only in the middle at Penn but would be top in the Big Ten. How do you know this is true? Obviously he left out the reality that a top 10% Penn student is way better than a top 10% Ohio St. student. Who is to say you aren't one of those people.

Then I suggest you not waste a Penn education by going back to Columbus like this guy did. I think in New York a Penn undergrad degree gets you farther than an Ohio St. grad degree.

well first off I am not assuming anything haha. I just know for a fact I have a better chance at being in the higher ranks at osu then at penn.. but its interesting you say that about the top 10% at penn. cause he actually said that if you take the top 10 at penn and the top at osu they will be identical. Also, he didn't waste his penn degree like that, he went to grad school at wharton as well, his firm just prefers osu people. Also I am sure new york and pa schools do probably prefer a penn degree, he did have a point that osu has such a huge network that you can find connections in almost any city.

It kinda makes since cause think about it. you know the kid got the same education as you, so you are more than happy to hire him cause everyone thinks they got the ebst education. Hopefully thats something we can all think about penn one day haha.

Im not saying osu is better than penn, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that that is wrong. I am just saying that success and admission into grad school shouldn't be the primary reason to go there(according to me interviewer) he said that the experience and diversity are the only truly unique parts of penn. Which I thought was realy interesting.

ah i got what you said about going back to c-bus.. i thought you meant for grad school. nah he works in cleveland, which I guess isn't too different from cloumbus saying it is still buckeye nation. haha

don't listen to him...he's wrong...use your common sense dude...yes, you might be able to accomplish the same out of OSU as you would out of Penn, but you can bet it will be much harder and unlikely in the extreme. Also, top 10% is a relative term because individual departments vary in the rigor of their curriculum. For instance, people generally agree that engineering is much tougher than many of the liberal arts majors. You just can't compare those GPAs. And Penn's name is infinitely more reputable than OSU's...you'll probably realize this if and when you escape 'Buckeye country'.

haha im 30% sure you are right.. and 30% is my chances of getting into Penn (complete estimate but going by the ED rate). So if I get in I will definately agree with what you are saying, until then it just makes me feel better to think I'd be fine at OSU haha. Believe me I know penn is a wonderful school, its just too dam choosey to really get attached to haha
