I live near U of R and hear about people applying there all the time. Honestly, I don't think you would have any trouble getting in RD. It's a good school, but it's a safety for a ton of people. Only around 20% of those accepted actually enroll. I would bet money on your acceptance. Unless you were absolutely set in going to U of R you should not apply ED.

Well, I don't know if I'm going to apply ED to either of my top schools (Brandeis and UR) at this point. I do think it would be nice to be able to, though. It would lower my stress level so much knowing that I'm accepted at college in December when all my friends have to wait until May. I'm going to visit (I don't know about the summer, maybe, or maybe just in September/October.) and then if one of them jumps out at me, I would like to apply early. My main concern at this point is my SAT IIs. Does anyone have any input on how good/bad those scores are for these schools? Thanks

mdhopeful- you are stressing too much. Relax. D # 1 also had SAT II
scores between 660-680. She got into Cornell, U of R, CMU and a host of other schools. The most important thing with U of R is to show your interest, which I am sure you are quite able to do. Contact the admission office within the next few weeks. Ask them if they are going to do an admission session in your area. U of R did these sessions on Long Island and NYC at the end of August when my d applied 3 years ago. The schedule may be different now- but schools do start "touring" again at the end of the summer. My d was also able to interview in NYC. U of R set up interviews in a a NYC Hotel in November. You should try to visit the campus too- but if you take the following steps
1. Contact Admissions to get schedule of local admission tour
2. Go to local admission session ( they were the best session, they served cookies and soda)
3. Set up interview in NYC if they still do it
4. And visit the campus too.

Write a great essay and I think you'll do just fine. I would suggest you follow the same procedures for Brandeis too. I think these schools "track interest" and the more interest you show without going overboard, the better your chance for admission. Good luck!!

marny, thanks a lot for your info. i think i'll do just that. and thanks for the reassurance about the SAT IIs.
