In the class of 07 at my school the val got a 32 on his ACT and that was about the highest. Even potential sals got sub-2000 on SAT. My class has 7 vals (due to new weighting system) with about 3-4 33-34's and 2 35's. The 35's got 2390 and 2400 on the SAT. Also there are quite a few 2210-2250's on the SAT and many ACT scores above 30 in the top 100 of my class of 800.

The class of 07 at my school was insane. There are only about 80-90 of them. 2 Harvard, 3 Princeton (all early decision), 2 MIT (one early action), 3 Columbia (two early decisions), 2 Cornell (one early decision), 2 Duke, and a smattering of other top tier schools like UC Berkely, Amherst, Wellesley, etc. Compared to them, we're going to be shameful...

The class of 2008 at my magnet school is insanely smart/competitive.

I suppose it's a good thing we don't rank, heh.

our school last year:
class of 07: party-ers, with some really smart people in there.
class of 08: hardworking, generally smart, but not geniuses. most are really friendly. not over the top competitive (see below)
class of 09 (our class): SO COMPETITIVE. 0____0
Our class DEMANDED another oral comm/soph writing class in the summer before sophomore year because it's a required class, so people wanted to get it over with.
Also, for this year they made AP classes open to everyone because our class demanded it once again. Yeah we're pretty competitive.
class of 10: slackers. pretty much all athletes. no brains in there.

Okay, so no one is answering your question - a smattering of anecdotal responses about CC high schools don't quantify anything. 2007 was known to be a "slacker class" at my school, and they had some of the most impressive acceptances ever!!

To answer the OP question: "whether or not my chances are dramatically decreased by being in the class of 08"

NO

Darn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol thank you padfoot

The Class of '07 at my school Valedictorian only got a 30 on his ACT.

My class ('08) has had a 30, 31, 34, 34, and 36, plus many other bright kids whose ACT score I am unaware of.

Edit: Although I'm just saying what the case is at my particular school. I really have no idea if the Class of 2008 is better or worse than the Class 2007 nationally, nor do I know if it will make any impact as far as college acceptance goes.

yeah, at our school the class of 2008 is the most competitive. just for some evidence - i'm '08, i've had one B in all of high school and i'm 13th in my class. 4.6 cumulative GPA. we looked at some of the 07 transcripts last year and that GPA would have put me in their top 5.

I heard everyone in 08 has 2400's !!!

The class of '08, my class, aren't as competitive as '07.

I try to compete against myself and the Sal. I know that he can be kind of competitive.

I've taken a class, AP Biology, which was an all-Senior class(except for me), and the top 3 of their class were concerned, sometimes, about being at the top of their class.

Only a B in AP Lit kept the sal from being the Valedictorian of '07.

For my class, the person who was 4th said that we were "The Lazy Class."
What he said was somewhat true because I'm somewhat lazy, but I pull off an all-A record in school(not to bragg).

The difference between the Sal and me, the Val, is .18.

I have a 4.53 and he has around a 4.35 GPA.

He was trying to hide his Sal status from me, but I found out at the end of the year that he was Sal. My school has an assembly that recognizes the top 20 and scholar athletes, etc., so I found out the Sal.

Luckily, I have some room. I took AP Music Theory(when I was a Sophomore), so I became the Val.

If he doesn't re-take AP physics and have a full schedule of APs, I should be safe.
I heard that he's taking basketball(or another sport), so I should be safe.

I have some college classes that I could put on my transcript for honors credit(I believe my school assigns honors for college classes).

By the time it's December, I'll have 5 college classes to turn in for college credit.

My only problem is that I bombed the SAT(1640), so I need to score high on the ACT. I also need to pull off great essays.

I heard that someone in my class scored a 1950, so i really need a high score on the ACT.

lol.. the difference between me and the sal is like .015.. eeks

my class is sooo lazy.. and dumb.. the average GPA is probably 2.5 (out of 5)

The class of 2008 at my school is a bunch of geniuses....at least 10x more geniuses than class of 2007...thankfully the class of 2009 at my school has a bunch of idiots ^_^

my class is definitely the strongest at my school. (2010)
& we are one of the only classes in history that didn't have a food fight on the last day of 8th grade. hahaha.

08..lets say the smartest kid in the class might get a 2000+ at max...Since my school lacks well lets AP,Honors..Were not a traditional HS..My school doesn't believe in AP, Honors or anything like that..Also my school retrogress people....O yeah we got many suck ups as well..So a lot of kids get High Grades but aren't very smart..

Well, the level of smartness in each of your individual classes does not matter at all, since this year will have the largest number of applicants in history, which means the lowest # of admissions by percentage.

at my school the class of 08 is full of highly intelligent people

This is quite possibly the most meaningless topic on CC. Comparing your little high school's class to the class of '08 as a whole is pathetic! Not only do you not have any solid statistics, you're going with word of mouth. I thought most kids on CC were smart - turns out I was wrong...

i notice that as the years pass
the classes start slacking more and more x.x

As the years go, children get smarter and smarter.

At my school:
'05, seniors take BC.
'08, juniors take BC.
'09, juniors take BC AND Stats.
