just how competitive is the class of 2008?

Statistics can be misleading

I often wonder if the admissions process has gotten difficult by 10x or the applicant pool has just expanded.

More and more people could be applying, but that doesn't mean they're all super-qualified. Colleges will always accept x-amount no matter what. If you're good, you're good.

But this year, the applicant pool wll be the largest in history, and so there will be more people at the high end of the bell curve. That's just a fact.

every year just gets smarter and smarter, it's inevitable.

not in my school....

the sophomores and freshman are real idiots O__o

Every year the number applicants grows, especially to top colleges-mostly due to the popularity in the media of college rankings and all that bologna. Students aren't necessarily getting "smarter," but every year more students are deceived by the myth that the must apply to "name brand colleges," so the acceptance rates at these schools go down.
