Just HOW MUCH does GPA trump SAT?

Hey guys, this is my first post on CC, and I guess the title says it all - I'm a high school junior right now, and I want to see if anyone knows really to what extent your GPA trumps SAT/ACT scores @ PSU. I'm no stranger to States admission policy that "2/3 of the decision is based on GPA" but I also see a lot of other places saying they put SAT/ACT scores in the same boat as GPA. I have a great GPA, 3.88/4 unweighted, don't recall my weighted at the moment, but i'm 9th in my class (top 3%), but my SAT/ACT scores are low, not "I didn't get a 2400" low, but I mean 1570 SAT, and 23 ACT low. I intend on taking the SAT two more times before applications start next year, but I'd appreciate if someone could reassure me that GPA is definitely the prominent factor at State. I've got some EC's and all that other stuff, but from what I understand, theres no point in me spewing that all out here.

My first time I took the SAT I got a 1710 and then I took Kaplan test prep and I got a 1970! Your first score doesn’t mean much. Take a bunch of practice tests. Your ACT seems to convert better on the SAT scale. I’d sit home and try and take a test every other weekend or something else that works for you - its the best way to increase your score!!!

@ 1more - Thank you very much for that chart, I hadn’t seen that before, and based on that I would likely be admitted to UP - Found my weighted GPA at 4.67, which may actually go up at the end of this semester

@kblitz - Yeah I took the SAT for the first time in January, but the way my HS schedule worked out (Stupid block schedule) I hadn’t had a math class since fall semester, sophomore year, and the nearest math class was spring semester, Junior year, so as you can imagine, I was rusty on my math and thats what did me in

Take heart Etuck24.

My daughter is math-phobic, and her best scores were as follows:

SAT 1670 (M-460/R-560/W-650)
GPA 3.35 UW/3.5 W

She indicated on her application that she’d be willing to start in the summer, and was accepted into the College of Education. I am also an alum, so am not sure if that meant anything, but but the bottom line is that her stats aren’t all that impressive and she got in. Take the SAT and improve it some and you’ll have an excellent chance.

Yeah I’m pretty sure I’d put i’d be willing to start in the summer on my application too, apparently it helps your chances dramatically. I guess because it shows that you’re really wanting to go, the equivalent of ED/EA
