just in case i get rejected, how you appeal?

is there a website where everything is listed?

If you do get rejected (which I hope you don’t), the rejection letter will state how to appeal the decision.

Does anyone know the specifics though? I want to start working on my appeal letter so it’s perfect and so that I can overnight it the second I find out I get rejected ;)

That’s actually not a good idea, because if you overnight the appeal to USC the minute you got rejected, they’re gonna think that you were desperate to get in. If you really want, I would advise you to work on it sparingly…b/c you never know, you might get an acceptance next week.

What do you mean by “specifics?” As in how it should be worded or how does it work or how you’re eligible for an appeal?

Is there a chance to appeal for a scholarship? just curious

I don’t think so. I’m not too sure about scholarships.

Haha I was joking about starting it now. If I do start ahead of time, it probably won’t be til around March 30.

Would they really look down upon someone for being desperate to get in? I’ve read on these threads that “USC loves being loved”, so being among the first to send in an appeal letter may show the school that you’re extremely committed to USC and positive that the school is right for you (factors that may have caused rejection in the first place?)

By specifics, I mean the directions for appealing. Some schools specifically state not to mention any information already mentioned in your application, but only new information that could make a big difference. I’m guessing USC is the same, but if there’s anything specific they mention in the appeal directions (like word count), I wouldn’t mind knowing ahead of time.

Well I wouldn’t say they “look down on someone,” per se, but it seems kind of desperate, and they’re already reading these threads already, so yeahh…

And yeah, USC is the same with the appeal process. If there is something that happened during the time you sent in your application until now, report it to USC…preferably something good…

Last year it was a one page paper. All the directions will be one the rejection letter.

i suddenly feel the need to delete my CC account, in fear of the adcom discovering my identity and my perception of myself as underqualified

they’re gonna track your ip address haha

Lol, i wish someone on the adcom would make a CC account so they could clarify the whole status change mess.

Lol, don’t worry too much about it.

They read these threads for a laugh; they don’t really analyze what you guys are saying…unless they actually do…

My girlfriend appealed last year and was successful. She said it needs to be submitted about 2 weeks after rejections come out so around April 15. You need a letter explaining why they should reverse the decision with new and compelling information. And she also mailed 2 letters of recommendations. And she thinks an updated or just another transcript, it can be unofficial. Message me if you want to read her appeal

ahh i hope the appeal works if i dont get in. does anyone know what the percentage is or stats on appeals being successful?

i want to know that too.

Two things you should keep in mind when writing an appeal (I can’t remember where I read this, but I think it was a Daily Trojan article where the adcom was interviewed about successful appeals):

1) Do not tell the adcom they made a mistake the first time.

2) Do not just write about how USC is perfect for you or you’re perfect for USC. Your love of USC is not a good enough reason for them to admit you. Instead, give new and compelling information about your accomplishments, or perhaps hardships you’ve overcome, etc., that was not included in your original application, or perhaps major recent achievements, etc.

tbibbs, I sent you a message.

i dont know the exact percentages, i can find out soon once my room is not being painted and i can actually get stuff out of my drawers, but i think in the rejection letter from last year they said there was like 824 appeals and i think they accepted about 60 and maybe around 18 were given fall admission, the rest spring. but that isnt the exact numbers, only a rough estimate based off my memory. i will update with the actually numbers in a couple days once i can go in my room and retreive the letter

tbibbs, i sent you a message as well :)
