my son is a freshman and enjoying himself. Food is meh, but he’s not picky and finds plenty to eat. Plenty of complaints from others in that area. His friend group stays on campus and they find plenty to do! Good luck!
Thanks @VikkiG5! Appreciate all of the insight from people already there!
My student went for walk with a hawk yesterday and found it to be a very valuable experience. She sat in on a business class, ate in the dining hall and was able to ask may questions of current students. SJU is definitely in her top choices given the merit she’s rec’d and the overall welcoming feel of the school. It is my understanding that you are directly admitted to Haub if you apply for a business major - even undeclared business major. We asked about the recent string of robberies of students (not on SJU property but just off campus). The school is working with Phila police and making their own security more present. It’s definitely an issue they are trying to address. They communicate with the students about it and remind them to use the escort/shuttle service.
Thanks for the feedback on Walk with a Hawk. My son could not go, but right now SJU is his top choice. We have several friends with children there and heard about the robberies. They all seem pleased with how public safety is handling it.
Just trying to keep this thread alive. I know they went to wait list this year as did many other schools.
Our son is about to begin his freshman year. He enjoyed orientation and we felt the parent’s programing was very good. We have been impressed all along the way so far. The approach at SJU is so personal, so student focused. We have a daughter who graduated from a top 10 public state flagship, which was terrific, but a totally different experience. Room selection and class registration went well.
Looking for general info on how SJU is with merit aid. I may have to start a new post but thought I would pop in on an older SJU post to inquire. Thank you!
SJU is quite generous with Merit aid. Look at old posts and people have posted their student’s stats and the amounts they were awarded. Son was the lucky recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship but I haven’t seen it on the merit web page this year, so it is possible that he was the last class that was offered to. Its been a great fit for our son - he is very, very far from home, but it was a great fit for him on many levels. No institution is perfect - but he got several chances to visit (I think…he went 3 times? then of course for orientation in the summer) and was pretty excited about attending and is still enthusiastic about it as his first semester winds down.
