Just making sure I've got everything right

I'm a junior level transfer student from a cc in utah.
I'm applying to Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD.

Though, I'm a little confused about the application.
Specifically: I was under the impression that there was a general "Personal Statement" prompt, that was just like: "Say what you want" or something. Apparently this is not the case?

There are 2 required essay prompts, and 1 "Additional Comments" one. Should I put anything in the additional comments section? I really don't have anything "additional" to say or extreme circumstance to explain, but should I put something in there anyway, or is it actually just for extreme extra stuff if you have it?

Also, where are the WHY___ essays? I thought there was going to be some of those. Am I wrong? Do they come after you submit the application, or when you get accepted?

Also #2, I took AP us history in hs, and got a 2. I also was in the IB program and took the IB tests but didn't score high enough to get a diploma. Do I have to put these things? Will they know about them if I don't tell them? Basically I don't want to put them because they were pretty much failures in my life and I feel like it would hurt my chances. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help guys!

Those are the only essay prompts. You can leave the additional comments blank if you have nothing to put in there. There are no “why____ essays”.

You should report all grades for all tests you took even if you think they will hurt your chances.

Since he’s already out of high school and he isn’t going to get college credit for it, though, I don’t think he has to.

And lol just follow the application and prompts. Even for private universities there aren’t always “Why us?” essays.

Ok thanks guys!

One last question:
Are there any recommendations required? I just want to make sure it’s not at the end after you submit it or something, so I know if I need to start getting any.

Sorry for being such a noob

Thanks guys

No. The only point at which you’d need a recommendation is if you were to appeal an admissions decision.

“All applicants should report scores for any SAT Subject Tests, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, TOEFL or IELTS exams they have taken.”

[Apply online | UC Admissions](<a href=“UC Admission - Apply Online”>UC Admission - Apply Online)

Put all of your grades no matter if you think they don’t matter or they will affect your chances at admission.

You can rest easy - it sounds like you have everything under control.

You don’t have to put anything in the ‘additional comments’ section.

The UCs (as well as many other schools) don’t have the ‘why us’ question. In general, you’ll find that the application is more formal and less stylized, as compared to UChicago’s for example. State schools aren’t in the business of fostering any particular attitudes. They have a clean-cut, no-frills job - to educate the state’s youth. You find that directive reflected in the style of the application.

Test scores involve two components - the scores that you report on your application, and the scores that the test company sends to your school. You can choose to have AP scores withheld or cancelled, and you don’t need to report them on your application. You can also choose not to report your IB scores. I’m not as familiar with how the IBO does score reports so you’ll have to look into that on your own.

The scores that the company automatically sends to the school?

Does this mean my ap and ib test scores will automatically be sent , regardless if I want them to be, to every school I apply to transfer to?
