Ok so I have had my monologues prepared for a while now, and in one I have cut out words and sentences that I don't feel are absolutely essential just to make sure I am within the time limit, I never thought this was a problem, but then someone told me that doing this wasn't allowed, is this true?

Cuts are allowed, unless, of course the college specifically says they aren’t. But I can’t think of any colleges that say that…

Cuts are perfectly acceptable. All of my monologues have cuts and I’m sure that most people’s monologues have them, too. Besides, the auditors aren’t going to have a copy of your monologue in front of them while you’re acting, will they?

Just be sure that the monologue makes sense with the cuts and that if you cut out stuff from a monologue that’s in verse (like most Shakespeare), be sure that you don’t mess up the rhythm of the verse.

My D cut last year to meet time limits. She was accepted to many schools. Don’t worry.

Not an expert but everywhere I’ve read cuts are allowed if needed.

Cuts are not only allowed, but necessary to meet time limits.
