does freshmen year in high school matter for the ivy colleges? if your junior year is a 10 in importance out of a scale of 1-10, then how does freshmen year score in the scale?

5, imo. Some schools (Stanford and Princeton, for ex) don't consider it at all.

really.? no way.. i thought those schools especially consider it.

From what i understand they still see the freshmen year grades. Every clases you take in one your transcript including grades from 9th- 12th. So they do probably see it and if you did bad in freshmen year they might have second thoughts in addmiting you.

Speaking personally, obviously your success in your junior year is clear. With the others, I'd actually scale them about a 9 because they want to see that you have endurance, stamina, and the motivation to succeed for a four year period (which is why it's so important to stay motivated even when you are accepted to some colleges, cause they can, though rarely, later reject you).

And speaking from a personal story, I have a friend who had applied to a considerably strong school where the acceptance rate was just barely under 50%, now she had been rejected, and she really wanted to know why cause she felt that she was pretty much set in with both good SAT's and in the top decile. So when she called, do you know what screwed her up - a "D" she had gotten her freshmen year math class. Granted a "D" is obviously not what you want on your transcript, but when every other grade in your whole transcript is either an "A" or "B," it's kind of hard to fathom how the school had done this. So, just a word to the wise.
