Just out of curiousity...

What do you think is more impressive...4 years of Chinese OR 4 years of Spanish in high school?

For admissions, it won't matter. Things are not that nitpicky:

Don't worry...

Agreed. I can't see how it would matter to anybody.

Well, if you are Chinese or Latino and the language is spoken at home, it might make a bit of a difference. ;)

I will say if Chinese isn't spoken at home but you take it in high school, it certainly will make you stand out a bit more than if you took Spanish. I wouldn't base my whole four year high school language curriculum on that, though. And As and Bs in Spanish are probably better than Cs and Ds in Chinese. :)

If you are attending a high school with a large Hispanic population, it can be a little tougher in terms of grading when the majority of the students in the class speak Spanish at home. On the other hand, Chinese is normally significantly harder to learn for English speakers than Spanish.

Yeah I was just wondering I'm personally not concerned with the issue right now....just a lot of people think Chinese would be harder if you had no prior experience in either. I actually think that if you "get" Chinese then it can be easier than the other languages... It's way more logical than English or Spanish. But then again, a lot of people find it impressive.

CHINESE!!!! Just look at the opening markets and world of biz opps!! besides, it's the most widely spoken language ON EARTH!! (it's not that hard you guys :))

oh, and it's definitely more impressive because everyone takes spanish and chinese is just a wee bit harder.

did you know that chinese is an ap exam next year?? YEAH!!

Chinese looks better since it's more interesting, in my opinion.

YES!! AP...except I don't think my school will get it. Hopefully it won't be dominated by an already fluent population of Asians...like I hear the SAT II is. But Chinese is becoming an important language to learn as China a rapidly growing economic power!

agree with above
