i just joined, and just recently decided on NU for college in the fall...after many ups and downs regarding college decisions, and some people telling me one thing or the other, i shall be entering NU as a theatre major, with a possible minor in film. it was a very difficult decision for me, especially since i'm a New Englander and have never really cared much for the midwest, but i loveloveloved NU when i visited for Preview NU a couple weeks ago.

anyways, the biggest problem for me now is deciding on where i want to live...my top 3 rounds out: Willard, Jones, Allison. i'm nervous about the whole roommate thing, because i've never had to share a room with anyone before, but hopefully i'll adjust quickly.

anyways, any fellow theatre majors out there?

Welcome to CC and Northwestern. I think you will really enjoy it here! Oh yeah and a plug for my dorm....JONES! It is a lot of fun and not too crazy. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. And the roomate thing, they aren't that bad. My room was like twice the size of my dorm room and I didn't have to share it, but I still adjusted well. Most people have not shared rooms. Just set the boundaries at the beginning ( Don't touch my stuff and I won't touch your stuff).

thanks! my only concern with Jones is that it won't be diverse enough for me. as much as i love performing and everything, most of my close friends in high school don't do theatre...i want to make sure that i meet all types of people, and i'm worried i won't get that at Jones.

which leads me to this question: are there bathrooms/showers on each floor of Jones, or is there one main one for the entire dorm?

I can't understand your concern about being around the performing arts all the time. The dorm is about half theatre majors, but there are also music majors and other random people who like performing (for example, I'm premed).

As far as the bathrooms go, there are four bathrooms on each floor. The floors are divided into suites of 8-10 people who share a lounge and a bathroom. The bathrooms each have 2 stalls and one shower except the first floor bathrooms which have two showers.

from what i've heard from others, it's not as diverse as a residence hall like say, Willard...i love the performing arts, but i also like to be around people who don't neccesarily share that interest, at least not as much as i do. i'm still contemplating.

thanks for the info, though!

im actually considering between those three too. i was leaning more towards jones but i also hear that its very cliquey and if you live there its kind of hard to make friends outside of your dorm. plus im not a theatre or music major, in fact i dont even do theatre; im hopefully going to transfer into medill and major in journalism, so i dont really know what to do. willard is supposedly really nice and homey with really nice rooms and bathrooms. but it really looks like you cant go wrong with any of those three.

Oops I'm such an idiot! When I said I can't understand I meant I can. I just wasn't to assure you that it wasn't all theatre people. Sorry! That being said, the majority of people who leave Jones after a year are theatre majors that wanted to live around people with other interests.

haha no problem! i appreciate the info you gave!
