your friend is verywise

While AP scores don't get sent out until mid-july, I'm pretty sure that you can get your scores early by phone...I think you can do that by July 1st.

On the student ID booklet thing you received while taking the AP exam...there's a phone number on there that you could use to call to get your scores. :)

ok but wouldnt they want printed/written proof

wondering about the same thing. but i signed up for 2nd session. think UCLA will receive the AP stuff by July 18? goddamn do i STILL have to pay the 8 bucks just in case UCLA wont get it? i HATE worrying about this kind of stuff.

westow.....ive been reading some of your other posts - you really need to chill lol

o... yeah i always exaggerate my worriedness like that. in truth, im not that concerned, just annoying by all these stuff we have to fill out and turn in.

The way i see it is that for me, the first session, (101), is the most convenient. It is true that i won't have my AP exam grades printed out, but I will able to get my AP exam scores by phone on July 1st. Nowhere in the handbook does it say that you need "written proof" in order to enroll in Fall quarter classes, but that the scores should be "generally available" by the time you meet with your counselor. The point that they are trying to make about UCLA not receiving the scores earlier than WE do is that if we don't know our score results, UCLA is likely to not know them either.
Either way, i plan on bringing my AP book with my AP number written on it. If, for some reason, the counselor doesn't believe me i can call up the College Board and hand her the phone (and $8) so she will know I'm not lying :). If i reported the wrong scores it would only cause me trouble in the long-run because i would end up having to change my courses at a later date. So if your one of those people, like me, who signed up for session 101, don't worry about it :)

I'm not sure why'd you'd want to lie to them anyways about your AP scores... I mean they're eventually going to want written proof. If you tell them you passed an AP that you really got a 2 or lower on, the only person you're really going to hurt is yourself...

I think it's the same thing like our transcripts. Not sure about Freshmen so I suspose it could be different, but transfers did not have to send any transcripts until technically June 1st... In theory I could have lied and said I had a 4.0 GPA when i really was down at a 2.0 GPA. The only person I'd really hurt in that case is myself. I think reporting your AP's work the same way.

if you put UCLA on the AP Test Bubble form, does it send scores for ONLy that test or all your tests.

its like the SATs, so its all

I emailed UCLA asking if phoning-in for scores would work for 101ers and they replied with this:

Unfortunately AP scores are usually not available, even by phone, by session 101. Your counselor can still advise you without the scores, however. They will just tell you what you should do depending on what score you get. This may mean that you will have to wait to enroll in certain classes before your scores come in, but not necessarily. Whether or not you would like to reschedule your orientation is up to you. If you switch sessions now it will be a $10 processing fee. If you plan to reschedule you must call our office at (310)206-6685. It is personal choice whether you would like to wait for your scores, either way you will get the same counseling.

Despite the emailer's niceness, im still a bit confused on what message she is sending, and what I should do.

So do we actually enroll in our Fall courses during orientation? Or is it just counseling?

Any other takes?

I thought AP scores are available by phone on July 1 and session 101 is July 11? There's a 10 day gap here...

I think I can decode what the message means.

scenario 1: you took calculus AB or BC or some other class required for your major AND part of a series you must take in a specific order, so this also includes AP Chem, AP Physics, etc. Since the score you get affects which class you take next in the series, you won't know which class to enroll in during orientation. Its not clear from the email whether you can assume you pass and enroll in the next class in the series, or if you have to wait and enroll later.

scenario 2: you took some random classes such as AP US History, etc and passing them is not a prerequisite for taking anything else. Here the only thing your score will affect is the possibility of duplicating a class. If you passed the AP class, you can't take the same class at ucla if it maps to a specific class (see http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/APCredit.htm for mapping details). If you didn't pass, maybe you will want to take that specific class 1st quarter frosh year (which is the argument for waiting), but you can always take it some other quarter. In this scenario not knowing the AP scores has little impact.

"Either way the counseling will be the same" means that you're going to get the same explanation of the requirements for graduation, what credit you get for AP classes, recommended sequences for various majors (if applicable), etc. But as outlined in scenario 1 above, your choices may be impacted by not having the grades.

yeah i signed up for session 101...those scores better be on the phone AT LEAST till the eleventh because now sessions 101,102, and 103 are pretty full. I don't want to go to orientation and not be able to enroll in classes that are geared toward my major because my Calculus AB, and Chemistry scores are crucial. Oh well...i'll still have fun :)
