Just started school... not sure.

This week is my first week of high school. I am an all honors and AP student. I'd just like some advice on what i should be doing in high school to help me get accepted at the college of my choice. I'm very interested in architecture and journalism.

i think the generic advice would be to take the most challenging courses and get A’s
to write for school paper or get published
to look at colleges that interest you and see their requirements for admission

but you knew tht already,probobly!

i’m sure you will get other more refined answers soon!

Keep up the grades, find out what you’re passions are, and follow through with them. Being unique in the applicant pool totally has its merits. Also, don’t forgot to be a good samaritan and volunteer sometime. Not only is it character-building and oftentimes fun/surprising, but college admissions people have GOT to love a good person :P

Since, it’s your freshman year, I’d definitely try out a bunch of stuff and check out what suits you best and what you like. Have a good time, and don’t get caught cheating :p

thank you both!!

Also remember to make impressions on teachers and consulors. That way, when you need recommendations, they’ll be able to write meaningful things about you instead of saying, “Who is he again?” I learned this the hard way; the first time I ever sat down and talked to my consulor was the end of my junior year. He didn’t even know if I was a boy or a girl before he met me! Now that I’m going to my senior year, he knows very little about me, so they’ll be very little he can write about me.

Work hard, join a club, do a sport, volunteer, even get a job if you like. But most of all, have lots of fun. You’re lucky; this is the beginning of your high school life. You have so many opportunities to shape it the way you want it.

Live it to the fullest. You don’t want to look back and have a bunch of What ifs? and Should of, Could of, Would ofs. Just don’t do anything too reckless.
