Just starting my college search

ok, i dont want to post out all my grades and such, but next year, senior year im taking ap calc ab and physics b, everything is honors pretty much, most of grades are A's and B+'s.

im looking forward to studying engineering, i haven't chose any type specific though

im looking colleges only in new york, my state of residence and primarily state colleges that offer such, it doesn't have to specifically have to be engineering, but it could have math/science programs. if you want u can list some privates colleges as well

so, can you help me list some colleges out?
also can you also tell me if some colleges have like a better math/science/engineering program than others, or is it the same?

also i dont think i have the chances for a merit scholarship, but can can you tell me what;s needed to get one?

thanks to everyone for their replies

Not familiar with New York universities but you’re definitely good enough to get merit at a lower state school

Well, that’s going to make it kind of difficult for strangers to help you choose a college, isn’t it?

I agree with etuck. What’s your W and UW GPA?

I agree, it is hard to figure where you fit in academically and where you might qualify for merit aid without more details on your GPA/standardized tests. Some SUNY schools have good engineering – if you do some online research you can get the list. Some I know of offhand include: SUNY Stony Brook and SUNY Buffalo. You can also look into Manhattan, Union and Clarkson. I’d look through a college guide book and do an online search to get a more complete list of which schools in NYS offer engineering. When you look at engineering schools. you want the program to be accredited (I think it is ABET accreditation but I’m not positive).

ok what grades should i list, im not sure what to list out lol

Give SAT and GPA

Math:590 Reading:550 Writing: 500
GPA: i would say its 3.5-3.7, its a 90 cumulative

Hmmm your GPA is good but your SAT is just okay so try to bring that up and you can get merit I think

For your stats, look at ABET-accredited SUNY programs, NYIT, Union, Alfred, Clarkson, perhaps RPI.
Can you look slightly out of state? Lots of possibilities around your state (NJ, PA…)
Are those your best SAT results or just your first try? If it’s your first try, take it again, studying with a prep book. You should be able to get to a 620-630 in math and that would certainly help you.

Look at CUNY City College and CUNY Queens College. Good schools for engineering.

do math/engineering classes vary between school? are they all the same, or different.
also, how about university of buffalo?
the sat scores were my first try, but when i opened up an ACT prep book, i couldn’t believe my eyes, the only issue with the ACT for me would be the timing
for the SAT however, i have multiple weakenesses

Manhattan College has a good engineering program
