Essays:
*I worked hard on them, so I, and others think they're good, but who knows?

If you were from WA I'd say that you're in no problem, but since you are out of state, there is a chance you won't get in. Other than that, you've got great stats.

sorry, but that low ACT science score will keep you out...

I disagree. You have a solid composite ACT score, so the low science score won't really matter. ACT/SAT scores do not make or break an application for UW. That's why they have holistic admissions. Of course, there's no guarantee, but I think you have pretty good chances of getting in.

I got a 25 on the science and 29 composite and was admitted a few weeks ago (as a science major, nonetheless). I'd say you have an 80%+ chance of admission. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the responses guys! I felt that I have a good shot and I do feel as though UW is a low match-match for me (not to be cocky or anything, but by the numbers, it kind of is), but honestly, you never know with the way this year's admissions are, so I need your guys' opinions.

But anyone know though approximately when I should hear back? Jeez, I'm literally freaking out right now, because there is still a chance I'll get rejected. If I don't get into UW, I don't know where the hell I'm going to get in this year!

i would guess you hear back mid-feb at the EARLIEST, more likely beginning of March. good luck, is udub your first choice?

no, it's 4th, but I doubt I'll get into any of the other ones above it since the others are (in order) Vanderbilt, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, so I guess you could say it's my 1st choice. Actually, I'm not so sure if I even want to go to Cornell or Hopkins over UW since they're so damn expensive.

I was just kidding! Of course you will get in :)

california_love08, you might want to quickly apply to a true safety, if it's very important to you to go somewhere next year. Now, that gap year thing can work out well (look for posts about this from Andismom), but if you don't feel that's an option, then you should have a safety you can love.

You look like strong candidate for UW, but you are out-of-state. UW has a stronger obligation to students from here than students from Oregon. Take a closer look at U of O -- they'd love you. Also look at Western Washington University -- it's a very good school, but somewhat less selective than UW, and it's out of Oregon, if that's a major plus for you.

I bet you shall get in. But Moominmama has some great advice.

What programs are you looking for?

in terms of major or career plans?

Well, I think that I'm going to major in either bio or econ and go pre-med. That's the plan right now, but I do have some interest in doing biz in the tech industry, so we shall see where I go with it.

I do have a true safety...it's UO because I'm literally guaranteed acceptance (all above 3.25 instate are guaranteed in without essay....lol stupid ducks)

I also have a decent amount of matches (I think). My full list is:

reaches:
vandy
virginia
cornell
hopkins

low match-matches:
Miami
Rochester
UW
Texas (match because of OOS)

Safety:
UO...it better not come down to this

so statistically, I have a shot at my reaches, should get into my matches comfortably, and will definitely get into my safety, but who knows? All I can do for sure is play the waiting game...

I was just wondering to see if your program interests were unique (that sometimes lends an edge).

At least you have somewhere to go, you can always transfer out if it comes to it.

OK wow, scratch that...I seriously think now that UW is going to be where I end up next year, not just because of money issues, but simply because I think I want to be there more than any other school, besides maybe Cornell, but it's taking over Cornell as well now.

Jeez, I really really hope I don't get rejected now. I wish I could have swallowed my ego earlier and not have been so hard on UW just because it's not the most prestigious school in the world. Oh well. Hopefully submitting this late won't kill me too much...

I'd say being ranked 16th in the world and ahead of all but one of your listed schools is pretty prestigious...;)

http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2007/ARWU2007_Top100.htm

^^That list looks kinda questionable...its emphasis seems to be on reputation for research, not on the quality of education. UW is still a good school, though. Good luck. :)
