Just tell me the thruth on this PLEASE its all i think about

and to pan1956… i dont think you read the first post… I cant leave at peace at my house… as of right now my parents wont even look me in the eye… im leaving the second my friend gets here and they wont even look at me thats the reeason im leaving… and ya on the side i think boarding school is real legit

Using grade inflation as a way to rank. Interesting.

How much homework do you get per night and what classes are you taking?

Oh… and your parents won’t look you in the eye but they’ll pay upwards of $50,000 a year for you to go to an amazing school?

^Important question. Tom was one of the top students and he got rejected from a few schools (luckily not from his top choice!) as a junior. Very competitive…

Haha, thanks for that! Not sure about that, though. I’ve recently read a few of you current 8th graders’ essays and, well, to be frank, they’re insane. I could never have mustered that kind of writing in 8th grade.

And yes, I was rejected at Exeter and waitlisted at Deerfield. I’d like to think it was because of FA, but as PPV said, admission for 11th grade is extremely competitive. As my Hotchkiss friend kafkareborn says, it’s a real crapshoot for a lot of these schools, much like applying to Ivy League universities. With so much talent and so few places, it gets very difficult to choose which applicants to admit.

You can’t “leave at peace” or you can’t “live in peace?” Maybe it is just me, but I don’t understand how anyone with that spelling and grammar can even make it through high school.

It’s not a crapshoot, just that the differences are minimal. Either way, applying as a junior LATE, without having something TRULY outstanding is tough.

ya money isnt really an issue around here… there FA reasons quite stingy… like if they dont have to pay for it then they wont you know? but ya we all feel that if 50000 is what it takes for all of us to keep our sanity then ya… besides they just wont buy me my car and thats the two years right there

Mm, that’s true. With increasing numbers of applications, belonging to an admissions committee would be a very interesting career. Not necessarily one that I would take on, but interesting nonetheless.

I’d be interested to hear the rates of success of late applications. And sebas, as others have been saying, if your home life is as awful as you make it out to be and you really want to get away from your parents (however questionable a motive for boarding school) I’d strongly advise you to look at boarding schools with rolling admissions and other boarding schools, maybe not necessarily ones with rolling admissions, that would be more likely to admit late applicants. There are plenty of good schools that might, including ones already mentioned here like Peddie, NMH, Blair… Because, if Andover really is all you think about, you may well be setting yourself up for disappointment. Again, it must be possible to get in late or they simply wouldn’t let you apply, but you need to be prepared for the worst and perhaps have a backup plan in place.

And DAMN. You want them to buy you a $100,000 car?

…

Hmm.

I am almost certain that NMH would accept you.

I want a 100,000 car! I get my parents used toyota from 1993… At least it’s in good condition… :)

yes i am not at peace… you know tranquility

As I asked earlier, how much homework do you get per night and what classes are you taking?

You’re a great candidate but there’s that whole applying late thing. It might help that you won’t need financial aid, but at this point you just might be applying for a spot on the waitlist. From what I’ve read is that Andover is pretty full and they’re not going to accept people off of the waitlist but you never know.

A lot of people will back out because they can’t afford it. So yes, he will be applying for the WL, but you never know.

Andover had a 78% yield this year. That means the chance of them even looking at the WL, let alone a late application, is microscopic. From someone who got into exeter and andover, your stats are more than good enough, but not for a late application. Sorry, thats about as truthful as I can be.

I definitely think your stats are great, as everyone else said, but I honestly think you should apply to more than one school.

Andover is extremely competitive, and their yield is very high this year, and they probably won’t even need to go to their waitlist for spots.

If you don’t get in, definitely try again next year, and apply for some more schools as an 11th-grade repeat.

Good luck:)

I know I’m chiming in a bit late, and that it’s probably too late to help you out, but for anyone else considering a late application… Anyway, what a bunch of people before me have stated is correct, a late application is essentially an application to the waitlist. But just because they let you apply doesn’t mean there’s space. I applied a few years ago in July (there were extenuating circumstances), and I was accepted only because a spot happened to open up halfway through the application process in a dorm that also housed new uppers. Basically, I got extremely lucky. If you’re serious about Andover (or any other top schools), and it can be avoided, don’t apply late.

Ooh, New Uppers! Just so you know, Upper Year is a downer. Lowers have more fun. And 11th grade is not the best year to see your grades crash and burn, which (even as smart as I’m sure you are) happens to everyone. Deeply consider whether you can afford to tough it through Upper Fall, rest up through Upper Winter, and try not to die Upper Spring. I do love Andover, but Upper Year is a struggle that I’m deliriously happy is over, and repeating Lower Year might be worth consideration. 2012 is a fun class. :)
