Hey everyone I just transferred to Berkeley I'll be starting in the fall. I need as much help as I can receive. I have no idea what to do next. I have to complete physics, Ochem, and 1 semester of general chem within these next 2 years along with my classes for my major. Is it possible to take the MCAT by this time next year? Or should I take it by the end of my senior year and take a year off (I could do volunteering work). Also, how do I calculate my science gpa and what else do med schools look at? Thanks for your help everyone I hope I can get into med school..

At Cal, do not necessarily take the words of your advisers as the only way to do things, my DD got a lot of conflicting advice and found the info on CC & SDN better.

Whether you apply the summer after junior year or senior year depends on the overall situation, your GPA, your ability to connect with professors and get letters of recommendation, ECs, etc. As a transfer student you are likely no worse off than the 4 year students in terms of connecting with profs, but what about other ECs, research etc.

My DD decided to apply after senior year due to MCAT timing, but later realized it gave her a very strong overall profile, her senior year allowed her to address each application requirement much more thoroughly. If you plan a glide year, find some kind of job that pays your way and gives you medically related experience.
