no reason 2 reply cuz i just wanna vent. i'm afraid tht i wont get an interview (bhp). my stats arent tht great but i still think i sould at least get an interview! i've heard tht if i was gonna b considered, i should have gotten one by now.

Are they still giving out interviews for BHP? My friend is getting worried. She got accepted a couple of weeks ago to McCombs, but she hasn't gotten an interview yet.

Your not allowed to vent. At least you've already gotten in.

Look, I'm just going to put this out there - all BHP cares about are test scores and class rank. If you're not at the top of your class and have stellar test scores (think SAT 1460+), then you're going to be out of luck. I'm number 2 in my class and have great ECs, but my test scores are only mediocre (1300 old scale, 2000 new scale - 750 on writing), but I still didn't get into BHP. I got into Plan II, though, so that tells you something.

In BHP it's all about the numbers. However much I hate to admit that, it's unfortunately the truth. They told me that in my rejection letter.

BS to UT:
thanx 4 the dismal outlook
sorry, but i guess i never thought tht my sat scores would be the reason i couldnt be accepted to something i really wanted. mayb ill go 2 ut nd apply to bhp my sophmore yr.

just a general thought...the honors program isn't everything. college is what you make of it. i know a guy who just graduated who told me that so i'm not saying this out of my inexperience.

ok now you can vent :)

collegenow:

Believe me, I really hate saying that. It took me a while to get over it, especially because my SAT scores don't reflect my grades and whatnot - I'm just not a good test taker. I never thought that would be the one factor that held me back, but unfortunately it was. I really had my hopes up to get into BHP because I had everything else, but that just wasn't going to be the case. I just don't want you to feel the way I did the day I got my rejection letter - I was SURE I had gotten in.

Honestly, I wish I would've been warned beforehand to save me all tha agony. But I don't want you to lose all hope - remember, you haven't heard yet, so there is still hope. I just wanted to let you know that the admissions process for BHP is all number-based and completely unfair for those of us who don't have stellar SAT scores, yet our scores still rock compared to the other 90% of the country.

Seems like if you aren't a National Merit something and in th top, like, 96 % in the country, it's all downhill for us in certain things. Really not fair... But I rant about standardized tests all the time - I'm a BIG supporter of getting rid of them in place of something a bit more reasonable.

And just as a sidenote, aarosurf is right, the honors programs aren't everything - UT is a fantastic university regardless (it's considered the public Ivy) and you'll still get a great education and college experience there - honors or not.

But remember, don't lose hope until you receive that letter - you could've very well have gotten in. Good luck!

just some further input...the guy i know who is graduating this year from engineering who was not in honors is going to get a very good job. however, he is going to be an honor graduate, since he has a certain GPA, and he said most employers do not even know the difference between this and the honors program. but maybe that is just engineering. still, its all about what you do in the workplace after you graduate. however, it would be nice to have the prestige of being in the honors program even if it is not that much of a factor. i would really like to get into engineering honors.

i realize the honors college isnt everything, but i cant just wrap my head around it. i mean i know rejection, but if i worked hard on something, it usually turns out ok. i guess i should keep hope, but i looked on the site nd it said only qualified apps get an interview nd well i haven't gotten one yet. mayb i shouldnt freak out until md-march since tht might b the last time they conduct one, but looking at the stats is highly daunting.
thnx 4 all the responses nd i guess i'll try 2 deal.
btw, congrats foxshox. u really deserve it!!!!

I am the BHP Recruiter, and believe me, we are not a numbers only admissions process. Currently I am a third year, and did not have a stellar SAT (1330); so take that however you'd like.
