Just Waiting...

Hey everyone,

I just found this forum a few days ago, while I was searching google for something that would help to alleviate the pure anguish waiting for SOMETHING from the Academy I have been going through...How is everyone else doing on the waiting game? Thanks a lot and here is a little about my application...

Congressional Nomination
Scholastically Qualified (Official letter, that is)
Class of 2010
Interest: Information Technology Major and flying

First off, let me wish you luck. I was in your position for a LONG time, congressional nom, scholastically qualified, needing a vision waiver, and just waiting. Luckily I got a good call from my Congressman and all the waiting went away very quickly. I know how hard waiting is, trust me, but I'm sure you will hear something soon, hopefully good. I wish you luck in joining all of us this summer. Go Navy!

Thanks...I need a vision waiver as well...Looks like you were in my exact position...Thanks again...

Keep Jeremiah 29:11 your focus and no matter WHAT may happen- you can look forward to it. We are still waiting and, yes, our entire family seems to be holding their breath on behalf of our son.

Finally someone who wants to major in IT AND FLY!!

Be assured that many prayers are with you and what you are feeling is shared by others. This site has been unbelievably helpful and supportive, welcome aboard!

My daughter just got her confirmation last Friday evening after months of wrangling medical waiivers.

Eye sight waivers seem to be a commonly waiverable condition so keep positive. Check out some of the other threads, especially ones talking about mids being called/accepted after I-Day due to attrition.

EXCELLENT reference wsjmother, absolutely!

Don't be shy about contacting your Regional Director, congressman and BGO, although our BGO said he couldn't help much on medical issues.

Good luck, God bless, and keep us apprised of your status.

Thanks a lot for all of the comments/support...I did find out that my eye waiver has been accepted, but was told that doesn't mean much...After looking over a lot of these posts about people who have already gotten their appointment, it seems that everyone has found out a different way or while in a different situation...Some have had 3Q, some none, some LOA, and some have heard nothing at all since they turned in their packet...Some have gotten calls from their MOC, others big packets, others small envelopes...Is there a method to this madness or does it just depend on how your dice is rolled? Thanks again for all of the help...

You said that you found out your eye waiver was accepted. I was told by the academy that you needed to get an appointment letter before they would look into a waiver, you made it sound like you didn't have that yet? How did you find out about the waiver?

Well, apparently my BGO (my scoutmaster's wife) told my mom back in december or so that the Academy had accepted my vision waiver...My BGO told my mom not to tell me because she doesn't like to send false signals of possible acceptance, which i can understand, so my mom didn't say anything...But, today I was calling DODMERB to find out and my mom told me the situation...I have not received my appointment yet, however...Thanks...

Once again, everything seems so mixed up with the Naval Academy. The woman I talked to at Dodmerb, and the woman at the naval academy, just yesterday, said that no waivers were even looked at until you got a letter of appointment. When you go into Dodmerb, what is your status?

For some reason I can't get into DODMERB...My username it says is "not in the database"...How do you look yours up?

You go into their website DOBMERB and go to applicant and fill out the info they ask for. SS, dob, then username and password and your status comes up. Or if you can't get in, call them and they will tell you what it is. By the way, where did you get the name Big Kahuna :)))), are you Hawaiian. If you indeed got the waiver, you should have gotten a letter from DOBMERB stating that. I got two of them, one from Air Force and one for West Point when they waived my shoulder.

Hahaha, my last name is very close to "Kahuna," so over the years people have said things like Akunamatata, the Big Kahuna, etc....So, i sometimes use it as a username...With regards to DODMERB, i used to be able to sign in fine but now it says my SS/DOB is not in the system...I never got anything saying i was "waived," just something saying i was "waiverable"...Just looks like some more ambiguity...Thanks a lot...

We used to go to Hawaii quite a bit, and my dad was know as the Big Kahuna, that's why I asked if you were from there :)))). Well, good luck, and hopefuly we'll hear soon. This waiting is a killer. Did you apply to any other academies?

Nope...I did apply to the NROTC Scholarship program, and I am also waiting to hear back from them as well. I ahve applied and been accepted to University of Missouri @ Columbia, University of Alabama, Virginia Tech, and University of Tennessee @ Knoxville. Thanks a lot for the help...

Your welcome. Best of luck where ever you go, hopefuly we'll both be at Navy. I also am waiting on the nrotc. I got accepted into the air force academy. I'm going out to check that out this weekend for an orientation. I've already been to Navy. I was hopeing I would find out either way before I went.

Congrats and I hope on the Navy thing for the both of us as well...I will be in touch...Thanks...

hang in there -- my son is also 3Q and has not heard anything either. He did hear that USAFA sent him mail, but we have not received it yet. Given that our Congressional office have not yet been told anything, it sounds unlikely right now.

For USNA, it is not a NO, but also not a YES. arrgghhhh.

That's what i keep hearing..."You havent' heard NO yet, so just keep waiting..." Heh, easier said than done...Anyways, thanks for the message and best of luck with the appointment to the USAFA and USNA as well...
