<p>I usually don't like the anime versions too, but in this case the manga was too short and didn't expand on the characters and plot as the anime did, which also added in a chock full of symbolism. I agree that most series are too mainstream and forgettable (purely action-driven), but there are a few really really good ones too, like 'Fantastic Children'.</p>
