but why is the acceptance rate so high (75%)?
is there another Case Western i dont know about?

Are you sure it's top 25?

srry, US NEWS rates it as 37th, well isnt that rank still pretty high?

Quality and % accepted are not always related. The University of Chicago and the University of Michigan are generally regarded as top 15 or top 20 universities and they have acceptance rates that frequently hover in the 50% range.

Never noticed it before ... but I'm wondering about this too.

Case has a whooping 95% early action acceptance rate. Yet the quality of the enrolled students is on par with other top tier schools (91% in top 25%; mid-50 SAT range: 1200-1420; ACT 26-31).

Are the applicant pool self-selecting? What kind of students go to Case?

The kind that thinks four years in gloomy east Cleveland with no major sports or social life sounds like a good choice. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

its reallllly hard to do well there as well. DO NOT GO.

i never said im going just WONDERING, i probably wont even apply

Come on case rocks! Yeah CAse! :D

why does it rock

Come on Cleveland is awesome. Well I think it's awesome. I LOVE Cleveland. And they have a great support system for pre-professional. They're strong in science and give really good merit aid. they're ranked #1 in Ohio. A research university without being the size of some of the other schools. A diverse population. Top engineering (especially biomedical) programs. Discount at the orchestra and symphony. Good internship oppurtunities because of 2 medical centers nearby + dental school.

Haha. My GC went there...she is SO awesome.

It's all about preference, guys. No knocking schools just because YOU don't like them. If someone likes the school, let them like the school!

Ive lived in Cleveland all of my life, and my mom, dad, 2 aunts, and 2 uncles went there, plus my grandpa recently retired after 30+ years of being an economics professor at Case. Id probably get a full ride easy, but Ill definitely pass on Case. The campus is literally in the middle of a dull part of Cleveland, sort of mixed in with medical buildings and busy streets. There is really nothing to do in Cleveland for a college kid unless you like going to playhouse square or seeing the orchestra, which is great in Cleveland if youre into that sort of thing but Im definitely not. Cleveland is not a great college city although I love the suburbs and the city in general to death. On the plus side there is outstanding food about 5 minutes away in Little Italy, and its pretty cheap too. Thats the highlight though.

Yeah Cleveland does rock, but in terms of excitiment for a college student, it is not the best town in the world. But this being said, most students who go to Case are not the type that look for the typical state school (think Old School) type of fun. The area around Case does have many muesums and is very awesome for the culturally inclined. (artsy type stuff)

And when my dad visits me he could see his beloved (but sucky) Indians! Roar!

So where in the hell have you applied anyways? POST 1,000!

OMG Joev has finally joined me in being a senior member. That's exciting stuff!

Yes great museums, great plays, great orchestra, tons of concerts... not really my thing though. Not the typical form of college entertainment. They get discount Cavs and Indians tickets though, which is cool.

The perception that there's nothing to do in Cleveland and CWRU is quite wrong. I think there was a time when CWRU had a bunch of stick-in-the-mud type students who wrote that on their reviews.

If you are looking for NCAA Div 1 sports, OK, then they don't have that. Like other DivIII schools, sports are for students to participate in there.

But as was mentioned, it is easy to get around Cleveland without a car and go to Indians games, the Cavs, orchestra, museums, opera, there's a downtown with bars, restaurants, a Hard Rock Cafe, a theater district, RocknRoll Hall of Fame, etc.

Within walking distance of campus, there are a few different commercial areas of restaurants, shops, etc. I'm convinced on a per student-capita basis, there are more restaurants for Case students to walk to than Ann Arbor has for UM students.

But the real value of Case is opportunities for jobs, internships, co-ops, and volunteer work in your desired profession right in the campus environs. Most Case students aren't spending their college years hung over.

The undergraduate school is a little larger than most LACs at 3600. If you look at the Top 100 LAC list, you'll have a hard time finding 5 schools on the whole list that have as much to do on campus and in the local area as Case. So I don't see why Case gets the perception that there's nothing to do. I contend there's not as much to do here in comparison:

Case is equal to or better than a whole slew of universities on USNews list for things to do (Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, ND, Wake, Wm & Mary, Lehigh, Rochester, UIUC, RPI, Miami-OH, etc).

I think a lot of people don't know what the real Cleveland is but are surprised to find it's nicer than they thought if they see it in person.

the city of cleveland is fine but the university itself is what stops a lot of people from applying. Case is known as a place where it is hard to succeed and isnt know for being much fun. Also the campus is located in kind of an awkward place. Basically the acceptance rate is so high b/c of a combination of the fact that case isnt that well known and a lot of ppl who do know of it dont really like it.
