Just wondering if I'm alone here...

I was contemplating the dozens of chance threads I've seen from Stanford EA applicants, and I came to the conclusion that either most of the students they take are insanely efficient superkids that even your average valedictorian has no chance against or that only the MOST qualified applicants are posting them.

Anyone else get that feeling?

yeah but I'm not one of them so there.

It's probably both. A lot of kids of college confidential happen to be extra high over super achievers, but also Stanford's Undergraduate admissions is pretty damn rigorous.

yeah, im like u, i see it as: i like stanford, i have pretty good grades and test scores, and im very dedicated to a few clubs. if i get in then great, but if i dont, then ill be happy wherever i end up, i kinda blended that into my essays.

i agree with chanfest22 in that stanford's applicant pool is pretty spectacular. We would all love to think that we represent only the top 10% of Stanford's applicant pool, but I just feel that that so isn't true. The students who get into Stanford are amazing---bottom-line. We must all be prepared for this realization of who we are all competing against.

p.s. I do not think all really accomplished people are overachievers. I've done some pretty cool, unique stuff and I have managed to have fun along the way.

I'd agree with Neuro chick. I know plenty of people (myself include) who have done well in high school and participated in a bunch of extra curriculars but still partied on the weekends, doing well in high school isn't really rocket science. I don't want to come off as rude or anything, but if you put a decent amount of effort into it (not necessarily an "over-achiever" effort), you'll do well and end up at a good college.

But yea, amazing and well-qualified applicants get rejected from Stanford every year. An acceptance rate of 10% is dismally low. Remember though, even the people with great scores and gpas and extracurriculars aren't locks. There are thousands of people like that. I don't really know how the admissions committee decides between thousands of spectacular people.

lies
lie
lie
lies
lies
, no there is actually certain things you can do to get accepted into stanford automatically, its just, I doubt any of you have ever done them, let alone myself :[

Look at the admissions statistics. Do well on your SAT, and you're already at a huge advantage.

in response to st. aegis, you have no clue what i have done and have not done because i have never posted a chance thread. who knows maybe I am one of those people who have accomplished something that would make me an automatic in? you'll never know. don't make assumptions just because I say that being accomplished, passionate and inquisitive, like toomuchpressure said, is not rocket science. and i am not one of those whiny, envious people. im very content with what I have done and what i have to offer. that does not make me cocky or arrogant. I do not "deserve" stanford more than the next person, nor would i ever say that I "should" have gotten in had I not. I just don't get what all the fuss is over. i go to a top school where almost everyone has done something spectacular and unique, yet we all can have fun, relax, make fun of ourselves and not take life too seriously. i hope that if accepted to Stanford, or even wherever I go, I am surrounded by people who can maintain a fresh, healthy perspective despite the fast-past, high-achieving world we are in.

no because if you did some of those things, chances are, you already in stanford and you just be spending your days not on a college forum.
Well if you are that kind of person, perhaps, want to explain why you are searching the stanford part of the forums?
Its nothing about how undeserving you are, its more of, you are in, and yeah, I win

i go on this college forum because none of my friends will talk about college they think friends should be an escape from the process. i see what your saying if your talking about recruited athlete, etc. I interpreted you wrong. I was just saying that I think you can have balance in your life. that was all. and there are no winners or losers I was just trying to have a convo. and i didnt even know about this site until i googled to figure out whether stanford wants resumes and this site popped up. i never went on it this much until i felt the need to defend myself after writing one post to people like you. perhaps, we all just like debating and arguing who knows. i have forgotten my point. perhaps, i never had one.

no no, you can be recruited as a musician too,
if you get certain awards, you are a shoo-in into stanford
there are always something that gurantees you into stanford, for ex. Nobel Prize
bwahahahaha

haha, nobel prize... more like a guarantee for a faculty position...

oh man i forgot to list my 2001 Nobel Peace Prize on my app

Stop f---ing worrying. It'll be fine. Yes there are your chess champions, world-class runners and children of celebrities here. But there are also perfectly normal people who never placed nationally in a competition. They usually just cured cancer or founded an NGO. :) But honestly, you never really know who Stanford's going to accept.

easy for you to say, you already in it :P

"no there is actually certain things you can do to get accepted into stanford automatically"

Donate 100 Million Dollars.

hahaha. no. I'm sure some Koret or Maples tried that but still got the big one-two reject.
