I'm speaking on behalf of a friend. He's currently a senior in HS, and recently got rejected from UMass Amherst. He got accepted to UMass Lowell, and I was wondering if its possible for him to transfer from UMass lowell to UMass Amherst after one semester in freshmen year?

I'm aware that they will still look at HS stats if he applies for a transfer that early, but my cousin was able to transfer from Umass boston to umass dartmouth after just one semester in freshmen year. So I just want to verify/hear your opinions on the chances.

Thanks!

There is only one way to find out…apply. But he would need to show some added credentials over the application that was rejected. For example, if he was a 3.0 student, a 4.0 in his last term in senior year would be an improvement that might be considered. My guess is that it would be difficult so my advice is to go to UMass Lowell and do his very best. Perhaps he won’t make it Spring 2015, but maybe he will make it Fall 2015.

Maybe like a lot of kids in his shoes he will be surprised when he actually likes it at UML. My son chose UML for the incredible honors scholarship he received… He has a lot of friends who also chose UML due to financial reasons. They are all loving their time their and the wonderful friends they have made. None of them are considering transferring. He has to go into school and make the best of it. Going in with the intention of transferring he probably won’t make the most of any friendship and extra-curricula opportunities and may shortchange himself.
