I know that Swathmore has a tri-college consortium with Haverford, and Bryn Mawr....do a lot of people at Swat. take advantage of this?

There is also cross-registration with UPenn.

The percentage of Swatties who register for classes at one of the other schools is relatively small, even though it is very convenient. However, there is some cross-pollination. For example, I believe that the Jewish acappella group has members from all of the Tri-Co schools.

Cross-registration among consortium schools is probably one of the most oversold things in college marketing. It's one of those things that is very important to a small number of students in a limited number of departments. It is most beneficial in some of the smaller majors where it is difficult to achieve a critical mass of course offerings at every small college. For example, Bryn Mawr doesn't offer art, so those students take courses at Haverford. Swat offers Linguistics, while the other two do not. There is some cross-polination in some of the smaller foreign language programs, like Russian for example. There wouldn't be much point in cross-registering in a large department like Poli Sci, Econ, Bio, etc.

Of the four seniors on the student panel I heard, none had taken a course at another school, although one Chem major was registered to take one at UPenn, more out of curiosity than anything else -- just felt like it was an easy opportunity to experience a completely different kind of school.

As to your other question, I've never heard any particular characterization of Bryn Mawr girls, other than the fact that Swat guys, like most guys, like all girls. I think the students at Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore are probably pretty similar.

Very informative....thanks!!!!

I want to take Italian, so I will go to either Bryn Mawr or Penn to do that. I hope to maybe also take advantage of a class or two @ Wharton.

I think Wharton is the only school at Upenn you aren't allowed to take cross reg. courses at.
