Just wondering

Can I send slides of my artwork as a supplement to my application? Will this give me any sort of edge if they like my work?

I don't know if the regular adcoms use view boxes as would an art school. I am sure you could send them but you may want to contact someone in the art department for some instruction on the format.

Hazmat is absolutely right that you should ask someone about the format, and I cannot speak to this as I was not a VA student.

But as I think I may have said in a performing arts thread before, Brown does accept supplementary materials, and you most certainly can and should send any materials that you feel would benefit your application. Many students with talents in the arts in particular choose to send examples of their work. These materials are generally forwarded from admissions to professors in the particular department that most closely relates to whatever you sent (so don't worry about the AOs having to look at it in a particular format--it goes straight to those who are sure to know how to evaluate it). A professor or two in the dept will give it a look or a listen and are at liberty to correspond with admissions endorsing your candidacy if they feel that you exhibit a particular talent that would benefit either their department or some activity on campus or just the general culture of the University.

Anything you send CANNOT hurt you, so don't hesitate. At very worst, it will do nothing at all, and at best, it can help your case for admission a lot.
