I am going to give you the experience of a student who will be attending CAS next year.

While I do not dispute the fact that NYU is a competitive university, I think this gives hope to the generally smart kids.

His SAT: 1980
GPA: ~3.5 UW
Rank: Top 15% or so
EC's: typical, HS music department and NHS

admitted. CAS. STATS ^??

This is why I don't really understand why when people have 2100+'s on here, begging for stat reports, that some people say that's a SLIGHT REACH?

Are you serious? I think you're overshooting a smidge. NYU is a fabulous institution and I'm not bashing it. I just don't think it's as far in the stars as some people claim it to be.

That ISN'T also to say that it can't be a crapshoot, that kids with over the top stats get rejected.. I see that here and elsewhere.

It was just a refreshing change, I guess.

Oh, also, NOT A URM... a legacy, or a recruited athlete.
White guy, suburban MA.

STATS:
-SAT=1940 (and retaking)
-GPA=~3.55UW
-Rank=doesn't report
-ECs=nothing special

What's Stern for me? A reach?

Stern might be a slight reach, but NYU in general isn't.

Uh, jewess every case is different in terms of the circumstances involved, however cliche it sounds it's the truth, the average sat score for cas students lingers around 1400 math and verbal and over 90% of the accepted students are in the top 10% of their class. The student's musical or some other generally attractive feature (essay) of the student may have set him or her apart from others. Futurenyustudent, stern is a DEFINITE reach for you, not just a slight reach. To say CAS is a slight reach for someone with a 2100 depends on OTHER circumstances as well, not just the SAT score. So overall, it really depends on the person and holistic evaluation.

HarlemNY...does it change my situation if I said I'm applying ED round?

As an aside, I personally am not sure that applying ED raises your chances of getting into a given school, despite the fact that the acceptance rates seem higher. I'm wondering if those increased rates of acceptance are due to a higher percentage of better qualified students applying ED rather than regular, thus raising the ED acceptance rate.

unfortunately I am not HarlemNY, however I have been on these boards since my Freshman year of HS, and I personally college counsel other junior students as a senior at my school because I am exceedingly familiar with the process. If you want my credentials I had a 1400 SAT and 4.2 gpa with lots of leadership etc. As for your question, ED will help somewhat but it is absolutely imperative to try and boost your SAT score atleast 60 points (try to hit the 2000 mark). Several students that had VERY similar stats to yours (my friends) all applied ED to Stern from different schools and were not even deferred, they were all flat out rejected. You have to show extreme interest in Business, you have to increase that SAT, you have to have some outside school work that could be magnified even if its only been for a year, and you just have to pull good grades for the rest of this year and beginning of next year. Furthermore, SAT IIs in 3 subject areas can also increase your chances if you do well, simply because it shows your well-roundedness. Hopefully this helps...lastly, next time you see someone is putting effort into evaluating you, don't just ask a question right after that is referring to a specific someone and act like you have ignored the previous comment, it is quite rude and seen all too often in the cc class of 2007 posts..

EDIT: I also agree with what shades children has said on his perspective of ED.

Admiited to Stern with
GPA 3.7UW (4.1W)
SAT 1880
Rank doesn't report, but was included as a candidate for UC ELC

(maybe they made a serious mistake on my application lol)

so.. I don't think you should worry with 2100s or 2200s.

Well, my essay was how much I hate International Monetary Fund and how flaw it is...
so that may have had some impact...

Here's something for you Tisch hopefulls
SAT-1850
GPA: 3.7 W
Admitted Tisch Film
EC: volleyball, a few clubs, decent list

I believe my 50% portfolio weight got me in, but it is why no one should give up. I at first didn't want to post my stats in fear of being harrassed for my "amazing luck" but most people on this site have sticks up their asses in terms of college acceptance. If you just relax and hope for the best, and not let it consume your life good things will happen. I am very lucky no doubt, and I understand that my stats are under the average NYU student, let this be a testament to those who fear that their 2100 won't get them in. Also let this be a testament to those with similar stats. NYU clearly doesn't look for the perfect statistical student.

I am going to retake, but is a 1380 out of 1600 too low for Stern. I have like a 3.6 gpa with the hardest course load my school offers. No ranking in my school. And I am the top business student in my school. President of all the business and stock market clubs and won some awards. My brother and I also manage a portfolio and own 2 other businesses. Do I have a good chance?

Yes. His essay about video games got him in.

No joke.

Jewess

Did your friend get into GSP?

Adam - I'm glad you posted those stats. I'm tired of hearing Tisch film applicants who got rejected crying and yelling about the injustices because their portfolios were "amazing" but they had lower SAT scores and GPAs, and talking self-righteously about how NYU claims it wants people with artistic and creative ability but really it all comes down to grades and SATs. You just proved them wrong for sure. If a film applicant with at least decent stats didn't get in, it likely has to do with the portfolio. Not the injustices of NYU.

//rant.

FutureNYUstudent: Yeah, ED will help no doubt, but it will not guarentee admission.

Duh...I know. Nothing guarentees admission anywhere.

Do I have a good chance or is it a long shot?thanks- DAN

But most applicants don't have stats like that.. those kind of people are just a few of the thousands of people who apply. In addition if you go to a school where NYU is an extremely popular school, your chances of getting in become lower.. sucksss

Not popular at my school....2 people in the last two years enrolled. 33 People applied in the past two years, ALL of them RD.

BTW, 7 people got in.

In the NE, it's definitely popular. Alot of applications come from NY,NJ,CT kids for sure. But NYU draws in people from all over, just is probably more popular around NYC.

Yea, my junior year, first semester, at a nationally ranked high school, I took 3 AP's and got a 3.14 weighted GPA. I ended up with a 3.4 overall and got a 1970 sat...not that great. I didn't even write an essay for the general application. I wrote some poem, or something like a poem. So I'm convinced it was the portfolio that does most of the talking.
