Justify.

the average sat of CAS is about a 1400, and Stern is about a 1423, so anything less than 2100 is really a reach...

mattistotle: "Anything less than 2100 is really a reach" doesn't make sense. It wouldn't be much of an average if some students didn't score higher and others didn't score lower - of course 2400 is always great, but I wouldn't discount a student with 1950, either. An average really doesn't tell you much by itself - it'd be nice if we were given a median and mode or a spread of the scores.

anything less than the average stats is always a reach...

Reach doesn't mean you won't get in with a 1950, it just means its not probable...

FutureNYUstudent - I'd say you should definitely apply ED. And....writing very good essays or something. Your SATs are a bit below the Stern average. The class of Stern 2010's average is suppose to be around 1430ish. The SAT average for NYU as a whole is something like 1370 or so. The average GPA is 3.63. So...I'd say 2100 or better is highly recommended for Stern.

Can anyone tell me if I have a good chance or is it a long shot???

dantheman, you have some nice EC's, but stern is fairly number based. There are a few people in my class with under 1400 scores, but they had major awards/EC's or were sports recruits. Id recommend trying to get a 1450.

Thanks for the response. I am shooting for a 1450, but I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

He got admitted CAS.

I also know about three other ho-hum applicants with 1200-something SAT's and very little extra-curricular crap who got in. CAS. NOT GSP.

I think it's sickening how much emphasis everyone places on these ****ing college board tests. And I'm not even making that argument because my scores are below par, it's just silly.

It's such a coachable, stupid thing and a waste of money.

It's not THAT coachable. If you're stupid, no amount of coaching will get you a 1600. If you're a genius, you'll get 1550+ without much practice.

Dantheman - your SATs are slightly low and your GPA is...passable. I'm not sure what the hardest schedule your school offers is so I can't really pass judgement. ECs are good. I'd say concentrate on your essays a lot. They really make a world of a difference.

Thanks, so if I bring up the SAT score I will be competitve for Stern??

Yea. For stern, I'd recommend a Math + Verbal of at least 1400.
