Jv captain important?

In my sophomore year of high school I got voted captain by my junior varsity lacrosse team. I wanted to know , how do colleges think about it? Do prestigious colleges not think highly of it because it isn't varsity? Tips and information are greatly appreciated.

I think any leadership initiative looks good.

I think you’re overly concerned.

Being in any type of leadership position is good. Are you worried that it’s going to reflect poorly on you? I can assure you that your EC’s are not going to be the deciding factor in admissions. It’s not as if they’re going to see that you were the JV captain, but NOT varsity captain, and decide to throw your application out.

It’s good, but if it’s your one leadership position, then no, it’s not good. I wouldn’t rank it too highly. I mean, if you were captain of the varsity and lettered, that would show a lot of dedication.

I really don’t think it matters too much. Unless you cured cancer or went on trips to Africa to feed hundreds of people, it’s kind of irrelevant. There are thousands of varsity captains applying to colleges every year. I rather doubt that it has much bearing on whether or not they get accepted.

EC’s don’t matter as much as people make them sound around here.

“EC’s don’t matter as much as people make them sound around here.”

Couldn’t disagree more. For highly competitive universities/programs, EC’s are huge.

Yeah, if you have EC’s that actually matter. They can certainly make a difference in some instances, but it’s really the fact that you actually HAVE them that matters, rather than what they are.

If we’re talking about inventing some new revolutionary technology, or developing a new medical treatment method or something like that…then the actual nature of the EC will be huge. As far as the difference between JV captain and varsity captain? Come on now. There are thousands of jv and varsity captains applying and getting in to prestigious schools every year. I rather doubt that JV/varsity status was the singular deciding factor in their acceptance. I think ones academic ability and history is going to be more important by a factor of a couple magnitudes.
