Rutgers is a GREAT school. It's way underrated, sadly :( NB and Newark are the best. Camden...i'd personally avoid that area, but either ways, Rutgers is a good school. If you're a NJ resident, do your parents a favor and they'll only need to pay 8 grand for your education...not the 40 grand. Ask them to buy you a BMW 7-series on the money they save :) not a bad idea.
BTW, i got in EA as well. I got deferred from my first-choice, which i'm sorta happy about cuz now i have a full selection of schools :P

if only business were in newark or NB..

yes, it's a great school for its price, but it's still a mediocre school. if you can afford and get accepted into a better school with scholarships, then do so.

The School of Business IS on the New Brunswick campus (acually it's on Livingston campus, which is in Piscataway, which is just across the river from NB). :)

I thought business was in camden. thanks for clearing it up :)

If you get into the Rutgers Honors program, it is superior to being at NYU. Many mediocre State colleges, have exclusive elitist Honors programs, that allow you access to their best facilities, smaller classes, etc.
And, many of the top employers in New Jersey, (which is a huge hiring state), go to Rutgers to hire th cream of the crop.

I applied to regular decision to NYU and already got into Rutgers college..do you really think RU is superior?

"I applied to regular decision to NYU and already got into Rutgers college..do you really think RU is superior?"

In no sense of the word.

Only Rutgers Honors is superior to NYU.
However, do you know what you would like to major in? Rutgers is #1 in the U.S (so I have been told) in it's Philosophy major.
Also very highly ranked for Pharmacy, Packaging Engg.

"Only Rutgers Honors is superior to NYU."

In what sense?...definitely not for wall st. recruiting or for getting into top grad schools. Nothing against Rutgers or its honors program, but in no way can it touch NYU.

"Rutgers is #1 in the U.S (so I have been told) in it's Philosophy major."

Yes, the philosophy major at Rutgers is great, it along with NYU and Princeton are normally conisidered #1.

It all depends on what you are going to study. If I was majoring in Philosophy, and could attend Rutgers for free, I would not go to NYU for $180,000, when the programs are equal.
NYU is superior to Rutgers in many areas, that is why I mentioned only Philosophy, Pkg.Engg. and Pharmacy. No general comparisons can be drawn. And you certainly cannot compare NYU Stern for Wall street hiring, vs. Rutgers.

I do know that the Honors program at Rutgers is very good, and their research facilities and opportunities are excellent.

What about Mason Gross?

"If I was majoring in Philosophy, and could attend Rutgers for free, I would not go to NYU for $180,000, when the programs are equal."

Then by your logic, a prospective philosophy major should pick Rutgers over Princeton (tied for #1 in philosophy with NYU and Rutgers U), and just about every other elite private school in the country as well. This clearly is not going to happen because picking a college is so much more than just picking the one thats great in one particular department that one is interested in. Once in college, many students also decide to pursue a major different from the one they intended while in high school.

"NYU is superior to Rutgers in many areas, that is why I mentioned only Philosophy, Pkg.Engg. and Pharmacy."

Well out those 3, NYU only has philosophy....so comparisons for the other 2 areas are not really applicable.

"And you certainly cannot compare NYU Stern for Wall street hiring, vs. Rutgers."

Agreed. Furthermore, wall st. is a very popular career option for liberal arts students at NYU. NYU dwarfs Rutgers in the number of companies that recruit on campus for coveted postions out of undergrad.

For recruiting (especially wall st.) and getting into a top grad. school, the honors program at Rutgers is in no way equal to NYU. That being said, I agree Rutgers does have some great facilities and top flight programs, and really is a wonderful school.

Mbe,

Mason Gross is actually very highly regarded in the arts.

I just wanted to say that philosophicalgourmet.com ranks grad schools, and undergrad schools can be a little different ...

like Princeton's undergrad philosophy department is really good b/c Princeton focuses equally on undergrads and grads ... but Rutgers and NYU undergrad departments aren't as good as their grad schools.

sorry to jump in, i just spent a lot of time researching undergrad schools for philosophy. :)

Where are you getting your info. from?

Since I did undergrad philosophy at NYU, I can tell you for a fact that the undergrad program is extremely strong and taught by the exact same profs. that teach the grad students. Also, while NYU is a large school, philosophy at NYU is a relatively small major with the College of Arts & Sciences.

Most of my info comes from my neighbor who graduated from NYU. At first, her intended major was philosophy ... but hated the undergrad so much she switched to Gender and Sexuality Studies ... she's getting her masters at Columbia University now. she does, however, want to get her PhD from NYU in Philosophy ...

I spent the month in NYC for a Columbia University summer program and meanwhile I talked philosophy departments with NYU, Columbia, Fordham students ... none of them were particularly happy with the philosophy undergrad ... and recommended other colleges

and maybe it's b/c I have a slight bias against some NYU students ... the events I went to really showed a conservative (but not in a political sense) outlook ... and right now, I think I need to see lots of different things. [edit: I'm sorry ... I can't pinpoint the exact words, conservature isn't right, but it's the closest thing to what I'm thinking]

So mostly personal observation ... NYU undergrad philosophy department just isn't for me. :)

conservative not "conservature" ... dumb typos

Fair enough, no school is for everyone...you seem like you'd be more suited to smaller colleges/LACs. Obvioulsy my personal experience was a lot different from whoever you talked to.

Best of luck.

I want to major in Broadcast Journalism..I want to be a sportscaster.

I'd go to NYU basically for the location, internship hookups, and going to Gallatin would allow me to take film courses at Tisch and sports classes at Robert Preston Tisch.

As for RU, they have the solid D1 sports that NYU is lacking. There I could do play-by-play for a lot of games and RUTV (their TV station) is simply incredible.

Oh and I just got into the Newhouse school of journalism at Syracuse today, which may complicate matters. I like their program but Syracuse is 1. freezing and 2. boring.

I hear from NYU on April 1. As I mentioned before, I got into RU and Newhouse.
