K. So I'm not getting an interview??? Byerly, NSM... is this normal?

I called harvard today and they told me they have received everything. I applied one day before the deadline. Howver, i haven't been contacted for an interview yet, when the other 3 applicants from my school have all already been interviewed in the past 2 weeks, and oen of my friend got contacted by 3 different alumni. Whats up with this? The harvard rep told me its all on a alumni "volunteer basis" and won't hold it against me if i don't get interview... But i find it strange cause i live in a pretty big canadian city, and everyone I know who has applied to harvard (class of 2009 and 2010 EA) HAS gotten an interview.

Whats up with this?

What city?

calgary, alberta

haha i'm in exactly the same situation! The other three applicants from my school have been called for interviews, all with the same person, but I wasn't called. I'm from a suburb of Detroit, so I'm pretty sure there are enough alumni to go around.

There is a Harvard Club of Alberta, and five regional,Harvard Clubs in Michigan, so interviews are certainly feasible and likely to take place, I wouldn't panic yet. I still have two prospective interviewees I haven't managed to reach yet! If you are concerned, call the Admissions Office in Cambridge and ask for the name of the closest Schools and Scholarships committee chair.

march1nineteen88, my D just got her call for an interview (a little further west than Detroit). Not to worry.

Where I live (U.S.) has a shortage of interviewers, so many students won't be interviewed until late Feb. It's still early. Indeed, Harvard is still sending the local schools' committee chair info about students needing interviews.

You may live in a large city, but if that large city doesn't have a lot of willing alumni interviewers, you may not get an interview or may not get an interview until much later. It's still early.

I'm not getting an interview I guess either.

Originally an interviewer called my home in America (I'm an exchange student in Taiwan remember) but my parents didn't pick up the phone so I could call her back on my own.

I did that, after talking for a few minutes it was finally clear to her that I wasn't going to be able to make it to an interview so she said she'd talk to the interview administrator or whatever that guys called and she said in the case that we couldn't do it over the phone she'd be interested in hearing my life story, unnofficially, just for kicks.

A couple days later she e-mailed me back saying, a phone interview wasn't possible and if required they have people in Taiwan (cough, the mayor Taipei) who could interview me (before I applied I e-mailed Harvard and found out that interviews weren't required here. Then she casually asked why I'm in Taiwan and I replied back from an e-mail and haven't heard from her since.

So I guess that's that, hopefully it won't have a major bearing on my admission/deferral as Harcard claims on it's website and everywhere else.

bump[ this up
