K201 Advice from Bthomp

I have followed this forum on and off for thelast 2 years and re-registered moments ago.... Bthomp, you have been a great help over the years with all your advice about Kelley.

I have a huge question to ask you and perhaps others in the know. My son initially struggled with K201 and dropped the class and has since recovered and is doing quite well after 2 years in Kelley. I vaguely recalled that you recommended a computer class to those that wanted to be better prepared for K201. Can you refresh my memory on that reccomendation as my daughter has orietation this week and I think I believe that she may want to seriously consider your advice. My daughter will probably major in Marketing and will have at least 12 -15 AP credit hours when she begins her frosh year.

Can you possibly can me the class you may have recommended and any posites or negatives associated with this decision.

Thanks for any help. Turning in for the night.

Also send my thanks to Bthomp, reviewed his posts before my own orientation!

Bthomp in the past has suggested students take CSCI-A 110 Introduction to Computers and Computing during their first semester to prepare them for K201. However, I brought this up with a Kelley advisor and she said there is actually a new class offered, BUS-C 155 Topics in CPCS, which is a more business introduction to the computer applications. This course is also taught by a professor who also teaches K201, so you also get the benefit of having that relationship/her knowledge to prepare you for K201. That instructor is Gipsi Sera, though there may be others who do the dual teaching.

Thanks for the kind words and info about the new class. Found this about BUS C155 (seems to be misnamed with an X instead of a C, but sounds like C155). I don’t know anything about the class. I don’t know anything about the class.

A lot of people on cc have said it helped prepare them for K201. Don’t know of any negatives associated with the class other than some people said they took it and thought they would have done just as well in K201 without it. I don’t have any other info on the class.

Great that your son is doing so well in Kelley and daughter is there too, dadwith2hoosiers!
