Kaiser permanente

does anyone know of a shuttle that goes to the closest Kaiser permanente?

I have insurance from them too. good question...

no shuttles to kaiser as far as i know. as you can see from the following map, the cloest kaiser facility is probably 15-20 min away. by freeway. its too far away and im guessing not enough people go back and forth to warrant any kind of shuttle service by UCLA or a third party.

http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&tp=1&tt=kaiser+permanente&maxp=search&q1=los+angeles,+ca+90095&trf=0&lon=-118.430386&lat=34.030185&mag=6

You can take MTA bus route #2, which travels through the whole sunset blvd, and there's a Kaiser permanente near sunset/vermont.

thanks. also, if we have insurance other than USHIP, are we still allowed to use UCLA's medical facilities if we get sick?

if you're talking about ashe...

Even if you waive SHIP, you will STILL have the use of the campus health service…the Ashe Center. Although the Ashe Center is the primary provider for SHIP, it is still a service for ALL registered students, regardless of your insurance choice.

for the UCLA Medical Center...you can use it if it accepts your insurance.

thanks so much.

the Ashe center will charge you a copay for all of your visits if you don't have SHIP, but they are generally pretty reasonable copays (~$20 or so, IIRC).

Kaiser is an HMO, which means that you must use their facilities/plan physicians to get insurance-covered medical care. Kaiser is huge and have their own hospitals, so you pretty much are relegated to using those if you want to see a doctor. As people have said, there are several Kaiser facilities in LA. The closest one I know of is right off of the 10 freeway not too far east of the 405 and UCLA.
UCLA Medical Center does not accept Kaiser insurance. They do, however, accept it for ER visits. Any health insurance plan will cover emergency expenses at any hospital (including ambulance transport fees), so if you need to go to the ER, definitely use UCLA's.

np blink...forgot about the copayments

I’m a little confused here. I think I have an infection in my eye and I want to visit the Ashe Center but I’m not sure how much I’m supposed to pay.

I waived SHIP since I have insurance through Kaiser Permanente, so I understand that Kaiser won’t pay for my visit.

The thing that confuses me is under: http://www.studenthealth.ucla.edu/geninfo/gi-fees.html#copays

In the “2007-2008 Ashe Center Service Fee List” there are three columns labeled: Fee for Service, Registered w/o SHIP, and SHIP. I’m not sure if I have to pay the Fee for Service or the Registered w/o SHIP fees.

I’d appreciate any help. Thanks!
