Kansas vs. Mizzou

I am applying to colleges right now for the fall of 2008. This summer I visiting Mizzou in columbia and saw what they had to offer. I have many friends who attend both schools so when I ask them questions about theirs school they are bias. Unfortunatly, i will probably not be able to visit KU for a couple months. I was wondering if anyone has advice on which college is better, KU or MU. I plan on majoring in the business field.

also,

I am wondering about their admissions. I am out of state and have a 3.38 GPA but only a 21 on my ACT. I have many EC's but i figure my stats are what really matters. I a able to get accepted to either of these schools?

KU and Mizzou...hmm. Wherever you end up going, you'll end up hating the other by the time you graduate...got to love rivalries like this one.

I grew up in KC, and so am familiar with both. Pretty equal schools. In terms of business, if you end up in KC, being from KU will be a better "in" than Mizzou, but if you want to end up in St. Louis, then going to Mizzou would be the better "in" as far as networking and stuff goes.

Mizzou probably has the better rep on this website because of their top-notch journalism college, but since you're not headed that way, it's probably not a big issue.

I think you'll probably have an easier time getting into KU with your stats from OOS, just b/c there are probably fewer OOS applicants to KU (again, Mizzou's journalism program is a big draw, while KU's most notable highly ranked programs are Aerospace Engineering, East Asian Studies, and maybe some health related fields).

Basically I think this will all come down to your visits and how you feel about the campuses. There's not enough to substantially differentiate them, without starting to get into characteristics of fit. Lawrence is a great college town, up there with the likes of Athens GA or Bloomington IN, and is only 45 minutes from Kansas City. Columbia is bigger than Lawrence, but farther away from really big cities.

They are both hella boring...surrounded by corn.

I would give a slight edge to Missouri, but it comes down to which one you prefer. You'll be borderline for both, but I think you'll get in based on GPA.

Mizzou is the best for journalism, but doesn't really stand out in other fields (probably because they're overshadowed by journalism).

Kansas, I think, has a slightly better reputation over all, but not enough so that it would make a difference.

Go to the school that better fits you.

I think he'll get into both. KU and Mizzou are both good schools, but they share pretty relaxed admissions standards:

KU qualified admission standards:

Achieve an ACT score of 21 or above or an *SAT score of 980 or above, or
Earn at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0-point scale in the Kansas Board of Regents curriculum, or

Out-of-State Residents:

Mizzou:

To qualify for admission, the combination of your high school rank and test score must meet or exceed the values in the table below. We accept class rank and test score data from your sixth, seventh or eighth semester of high school. If you attend a high school which does not rank its students, your admission will not be negatively affected: Students from non-ranking high schools are admitted based on academic achievement and ACT or SAT scores.

If your ACT composite score is 24 or higher, or the total of your SAT critical reading and math scores is 1090 or higher, and you have completed the required curriculum, then you meet the requirements for admission to Mizzou.

If your ACT composite score is 17 to 23, or the total of your SAT critical reading and math scores is 800 to 1080, then you must meet the following high school class rank to be admitted to Mizzou:
