Kansas vs. Texas A&M vs. American

hello, I am having some trouble deciding on a school to go to next year. I have narrowed it down to three schools. Can you please tell me about University of Kansas, Texas A&M and American University. I am looking for info on the things not in the college books. for example, is it a big party/drinking school? how is the school spirit? do people there care about school sports? how is their reputation? and anything else that is about the college atmosphere. Thank You

Kansas has a great overall campus, town and experience. Good balance of academics, partying, and school spirit.

American’s school spirit/sports are definitely iffy. It’s there, but it’s not serious. It’s a dry campus, but it’s right in the city, so everyone who is 18+ clubs and the 21+ crowd probably frequents alcoholic establishments.

Texas A&M is in a extremely conservative military town. If that’s your thing then Gig 'Em, but its definitely not my choice.

American is both overrated and overpriced.

I would opt for Kansas, its actually a nice campus and has a great balance.

texas a&m is not a military town. they have a corps of cadets, though. it is very conservative.

huge school spirit. people care about sports. great reputation in texas. not sure elsewhere. friendly campus. lots of traditions.

you can do as little or as much drinking/partying as you want.

greek scene is pretty small, IMO.

If I were doing the college process over again, I would’ve gone to Kansas. Great school.

Texas A&M is a good university. The Aggies sports team seem to be nice. College Station, from what I’ve heard, is quite boring, though.

Would Kansas be a good place for a kid from Southern California? Or is it very midwestern in feel (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing for this kid).

I guess it depends on your personality. I’d venture that you’re not a stereotypical Southern Californian, so I think you’d feel pretty comfortable at KU. I’ve unfortunately not visited, but my friend here at Temple is from the Dallas suburbs, has a lot of friends at KU and really likes it there. I think you’d be fine. I’m from the Philly suburbs, and I’m pretty sure I’d be really comfortable there.
