Hi, does anyone know if the Kaplan tests are more difficult than those of Collegeboard or not? The Collegeboard ones sound more reliable but I bought the Kaplan book which offers more tests.
I wonder how my Kaplan's test score is different from the real test.

I took the kaplan course twice, and then i bought the blue book. I know that Kaplan makes their own tests, and the college board book includes real questions from previous SATs. In my opinion, The kaplan tests are unreliable

Hi CRbomber650, so in your opinion, the Kaplan ones are more difficult or easier?

The Kaplan book of 12 SATs is chock full of errors - buy at your own risk.

The kaplan exams have been neither harder nor easier, they are unreliable. Lots of the tests they administer are way off. I took a testmasters course after the kaplans, and i think it had much more to offer than Kaplan did

Kaplan sucks, the Official Guide is worthy.

Official guide hands down. Kaplan is only good for some extra practice if you've already finished the blue book. And this is just referring to material, Kaplan's scales are incredibly wrong. I recall that when I did practice for the old SAT, the 10 real's was giving me an average of 1450 or so whereas Kaplan was giving me an average of 1560, for the same amount of questions wrong. I'm pretty sure the scale is just as bad with the newer books, if I recall correctly. Also, this is just general and maybe off topic advice, never pay attention to the projected scores given by any book. Rather, focus on how many you are getting wrong in each section instead.

don't trust the kaplan CR, this includes their strats and tests. I got 600-650 on all the CR from kaplan tests (this includes the 12 tests in their books and their class tests). Then on the PSAT I got -1 on the CR for a 78 and I just took the Jan SAT test and I know I got >750.
So my suggestion is to stay away.

CollegeBoard's Official Study Guide is best. After all, their questions are more likely to pertain to what will be on the test.

H20Polo, don't be so sure...

im positive since the week before I took the PSATs I got a 217 on Kaplan's PSAT (the one for their PSAT/SAT class), whereas about 4 days later on the real PSAT I got a 232 with my CR from a 64 to a 78
I agree that their math and WR is not far from the real one, but the CR is definately off.

I don't mean the Kaplan thing, I agree they are off. I am talking about your projected SAT score.

What about the Princeton Review's tests?

i heard barrons was the best

Again, PR's scale is off and only the blue book will offer the correct type of material. PR is ok for practice, but don't expect it to provide a good indicator of how you will do. Barrons can be considered good as it pumps super hard material out which I suppose better prepares you for the SAT.

This guy speaks the truth. Their CR answers are often extremely illogical and the explanations provided makes it sound as if they don’t know what they are doing. Matter of fact, I would be surprised if they do know what they’re doing.

I’m bumping this old post for current CCers to take credence to the aforementioned posts and my advice. Buy Kaplan’s books at your own risk (this includes the newest, 2012 edition).
