kaplan class course

I'm taking the Kaplan course for the ACT right now and so far it's not helped a bit. for whoever took it, did this class help you at all? It feels like a waste of time and money....

my daughter took the Kaplan prep for the SAT and did it during school with no really good results because she did not do all of the homework etc due to time constraints. She found it too long. I think 12 sessions. She took a 4 weekend course after that and finally improved her score. Although I feel the Kaplan practice tests are worth the expense if you can find out what you keep doing wrong and fix it. You do get the practice you need, but I'm not so sure about the strategy.

I did a lot better on the act's because I took that course, but of course I did do ALL of the homework and asked my instructor questions after class about concepts I didn't understand.

Honestly I believe that my instructor was right: If you're in this course and you want to have a sucessful score on the ACTs, it all will depend on how much time and effort you put into the course.

And shopgrl---12 sessions isn't long (at least for me it wasn't). It went by so quick and I wish that there were more sessions. My instructor actual made the class fun and made fun of some of Kaplan's stress reducing concepts (um....popping balloons?) lol

the great aspect about this class is the at-home materials and practice tests. My instructor was soooo bad at teaching because it was her first time, I had to learn everything myself because of the poor quality instruction. Obviously, Kaplan didnt take the neccessary steps to train their instructors.

I agree with anakinsolo, the teachers are not good at all, and the things they teach are mostly for people scoring around a 20 (basic stuff about interpreting graphs, etc).

However, the timed practice tests really help (especially since Kaplan tests are harder than the real thing). Also, the detailed solution guides that come with the tests are very helpful.

I recommend taking the Kaplan course, but just remember that you'll have to do most of the stuff by yourself. Go through all the resources they give you and understand the kinds of questions that keep comming up yourself so that you'll get those questions right on the test.

PR is much better for ACT, so if you can get out of your Kaplan course and get a refund, I would switch.
