If it was not an accredited home school you may be out of luck.

Accredited by what jurisdiction?

You do not need an accredited diploma to qualify for FA and federal loans. I suspect more is going on or your school misunderstands federal law. Homeschoolers around the country are eligible for federal loans and grants.

@TomSrOfBoston, Homeschoolers don’t need an accredited diploma to receive federal aid.

@gohun9008, It sounds like the college is looking for a code that designates a particular high school. @kelsmom may be able to help find it if that’s the case. I remember having to find the appropriate code for NYS homeschoolers for my son’s applications.

The other possibility is that you need to show proof of completion of a high school program, or its equivalent, by one of the methods outlined in your state regs. What state are you in?

Here in NY, students who don’t provide acceptable proof of the completion of a program substantially equivalent to a 4-year high school education won’t qualify for federal or state aid. Our colleges have to have proof of completion of a high school education before they can issue a diploma, so it’s important to make sure the college has the proper paperwork.
