Keeping SAT Scores private with SAT Registration choices

Someone recently told me that my son should choose not to list his high school in the College Board SAT registration. Instead, he should choose “Code Not Found” . That way, none of his scores will be sent to his high school and he can keep his scores private . I was told he could send the scores to his high school later, choosing only the scores he wants on his transcript. He is a sophomore and has yet to take any SATs or SAT subject tests, but he wants to start early and take them. Keeping the scores private gives him the freedom to go for it. I’m hoping someone can give me advice if this is a good strategy or if there are some unseen issues in proceeding this way. Thanks!

The better solution is to as the school not to include any standardized tests on the transcripts. There is no guarantee that the College Board won’t find out the HS and send them anyway or send them to the incorrect HS. I don’t get why he (and you) are trying the cloak and dagger approach.

Take early and take often is not a viable approach, IMO. There are opportunity costs involved - both time and money. He should go into his first testing prepared, and then assess retake strategies after receiving the first scores.

The secrecy with the HS aside, some colleges (not that many, but still) require all scores, and there is no way to ethically hide scores from them.

Thank you, advice is much appreciated!

What exactly are you concerned about? Every college I’ve dealt with (2 kids through the process) require scores directly from College Board/ACT. Even if scores are put on a HS transcript (which I haven’t seen), I’m pretty sure colleges will ignore them.

IME, taking tests over and over isn’t a good strategy for improving scores. 3 SAT should be a max. Spend time studying, practice tests, etc. instead. PSAT 10th and 11th, 3 SAT (or ACT equivalent) tops.
