can anyone answer a few questions for me? i've been assigned to a single in a suite (exactly what i wanted, yay!) for next semester.

is there air conditioning in the rooms? i've only ever stayed in becker and there is there. so far i've been told there are ceiling fans and a thermostat, but the thermostat isn't functional
next, can i bring my own minifridge? i'm pretty sure this is allowed, but i want to make sure because i don't want a microfridge since i won't use the microwave ever and i'd rather not rent one if i'm not using it
third, i heard that the showers in keeton don't have doors and that they only have curtains. is that true?
how's the food? i've heard it has the worst and best on west.. i've eaten at becker and cook, but never in keeton before.

and feel free to add in anything else you know about keeton. thanks!

I live in Keeton House. It’s very similar to Becker, except Keeton is a year or two newer. I actually have no idea if we have air conditioning…I’ve always been comfortable, but stuff like this is always controlled by maintenance. The ceiling fan is VERY nice. Especially in a single room. Whenever it is warm in I will just turn that one and it’s instant comfort. It’s also nice every once in a while to open a window and have the fan circulate some fresh air.

You can bring a minifridge. I can’t speak for all of Keeton, but my shower has a curtain not a door. Not really sure why that would matter though…

I enjoy the food here and I have a friend not in Keeton who comes here more than I do since he likes the food so much. West Campus is relatively small though so you can always go to different dining halls for food. If anything rotating dining halls helps get you some more variety in your diet.

If you’ve been in Becker, Keeton is similarly designed. I’m sure you’ll enjoy living here.

Are there ethernet ports in the single rooms??? I’m got a room for summer session '11.

I lived in Keeton last year-- there’s no AC, but the fan definitely does a really good job of keeping the room cool (it also helps that there are essentially black-out shades which block the heat/sun).

The tell you that you can only bring the minifridge/micro combo, but no one regulates that-- definitely just bring your own.

I loved keeton’s food-- I’d say it’s between there and Cook for the best food. You can eat at any dining hall on West though, so if you end up not liking it, you can always just go to a different house. I loved both of those houses because they had a wide variety of fresh, healthy vegetables and fish, as well as a great salad bar. If you’re more into fried type foods, then I think Becker and Bethe are more catered towards that.

Also, there is a fantastic study room in Keeton which is perfect for when it’s really ****ty weather and you don’t feel like walking up the slope for a library.

Is there wi-fi anywhere and do the dorms have ethernet ports? I’m picky about that.

Yeah, all of the buildings on west have Red Rover cables (and Wi-Fi in dining rooms and common areas)

Individual rooms don’t have A/C but if you’re in a suite the common room does (but you can’t control it). So the closer to you are to the common room the more comfortable you will be in the hot months…not that there are that many of those to begin with.

ImTheHost, did you get your housing assignment for the summer yet? I’ll be in Keeton for the summer, but I haven’t gotten my actual room yet and I’m not sure when it’s supposed to come out.

you don’t get your summer room assignment till you are actually physically there, checking in.

I got an email confirmation with my room # and moving-in info… (email was from the Housing Office, they said check-in and key pickup starts at 2pm for me)

OK nevermind, ImTheHost’s actually accurate info…
