Kelley Chances and Questions

I will be applying to IU early September and have a few questions about petitioning to Kelley. I have a 1370 SAT and a 3.51 GPA (FR: 3.51 SOPH: 3.61 JR: 3.43).
Obviously my GPA is under the limit. However i took a lot of AP and honors classes that are not factored into my GPA because my school refuses to weight it.
Will Kelley see that I challenged myself with courses in High School and factor that in? Should i mention that my GPA is unweighted and that if weighted it would be higher than a 3.7 in the petition? Does it look like my petition would be successful?

If you took the time to read all of this thanks a lot!

Have your school weight your gpa for you. Go in and talk to the principal about it. Have him call admissions and send a transcript with what your weighted gpa would be. Worked for me, but it took many calls from my principal. He has to be on your side or you lose. Get him the number of the director of admissions at iu. But be sure you’re ABSOLUTELY sure the weighting would put you through.

Unfortunately my Guidance Counselor made it clear that weighting would not be an option. Does it look like my petition would be accepted and if not, how hard is it to get in as a non-DA.

I think you have a better chance of getting your petition accepted if you don’t mention it. If your tough class schedule is somehow relevant to the essay you write, throw it in there–otherwise, it just sounds like you’re making an excuse. Your SAT scores are 100 points over what they require. Your GPA is close enough. If you write a strong essay and secure a solid recommendation, you should be fine. I had lower stats than you when I petitioned, it got accepted, and now i’m in Kelley Honors.

In short, I think your chances are very good. I recommend though keeping the focus of your petition on why they should directly admit you, not why you fell short of the required GPA.
