Kelley Direct Admission

Anyone know anything about petitioning for direct admission (if didnt meet automatic required test score)....how likely is it that you can get in that way..is it even worth it to try...

You can appeal using the petition on this page. It is worth applying if you meet one of the requirements and are very close on another. They tend to admit students in that situation.

I sent in my direct admission petition and materials on Tuesday the 11th, and today, Friday the 20th, I got an email saying I had been direct admitted to the Kelley School of Business. I have a 3.4 GPA (way below cutoff) but a 1500 SAT and hopefully a good essay/ECs so I was hoping to get in but not expecting a response this quickly. I’m very excited and this moves IU back up my list so you should definitely file a petition.

Anyone know what my chances would be if I had a 3.37 GPA, 1330 SAT and 31 ACT?

GPA is a bit low.

jbels, I notice from another thread that your class rank is top 8%. That should be enough to get you in automatically as a direct admit. You need let them know that you are top 8%, and not even have to do the petition process.

I have a 3.61 GPA, 31 ACT and a 1360 SAT. Chances?

halopower015 I would say your chances are pretty strong to get in on a petition. Your ACT and SAT scores are high enough for Huttons Honors College and pass the direct admit requirements. Your gpa is also really close and from what I have heard from other people about petitioning I think you will get in if you try and try soon.

IU/Kelley likes those high standardized test scores among their entering freshmen, as they are trying to raise those scores vis a vis the other Big Ten schools. They know if you are a direct admit to Kelley, that you are far more likely to actually enroll at IU. So with your high SAT/ACT scores, I agree that you have an excellent chance for direct admit halopower. But you won’t get it if you don’t petition, and you should do it ASAP.

A lot of direct admits don’t even wind up going to Kelley, because they get accepted to better schools. So Kelley likes to improve their chances of getting kids with high standardized test scores by direct admitting students with high standardized test scores.

Is there a certain number of kids that the business school can take? I am planning on petitioning to get in and just wondering if it will be bad if i wait any longer.

There is no limit on direct admits

BTHOMP1- I think you have me mixed up with someone else, as my school does not rank.
aotto8900- I know my GPA is kinda low, but I have taken 5 APs, 1 Honors and SUPA. Plus, IO applied for Legal Studies, and math was really what killed my GPA, so I’m hoping they will overlook the overall number.

stangs12- I spoke to admissions and they told me it was best to petition ASAP

I mailed my petition 2 days ago, so hopefully I should hear soon. I would probably end up going to IU if I’m a direct admit and there is no way I go to IU if I’m not. Thanks for the input.

Jbels, a post you made in a thread about Tulane you mentioned as being in top eight percent.

jbels, it is very risky trying to get into Kelley if you are not good in math, as Kelley wants solid B’s in all Icore prerequisites. Finite math is especially quirky. You might take finite at a community college the summer before you come to IU. Only about forty percent of the people who take it at IU get a solid B or higher. Then take calculus, K201, X100, and W131 at Bloomington and get solid Bs or higher in those classes and all your other classes and you will be guaranteed acceptance to Kelley. Finite math at IU has probably kept hundreds of students out of Kelley. It is very expensive for out of state students.

bthomp1- that rank thing was a typo from using someone else’s setup. Honestly, I checked the pre-requisites, and nothing there jumps out at me as being a problem. My math struggles were specifically in geometry/trig. Otherwise, I’m truthfully not to bad. The final grades themselves really hurt me. But at this point, its not up to us, its up to Kelley Admissions.

I’ve never seen anyone post to getting a direct admit waiver with a gpa that low, but applying for legal studies in Kelley might help you a lot. That is Kelley’s least popular major, so maybe that will help you get the direct admit. Good luck!

Accepted! I called the admissions office today to check that they received my petition and I was told that I got in.

That’s great, jbels! That will make coming to IU a lot less stressful knowing you are in Kelley already. Glad that your extra work to get accepted paid off.

Nice jbels1993! When did you mail your petition? I’ve called Kelley twice and they said I should get something this week in my email. I mailed mine about 2 weeks ago. I’m just way nervous
