kelley direct admit question

When I got my admission packet yesterday, it did not mention anything about being admitted to Kelley. However, when I checked my application status online it said the following:
Admission Type: First-Year Beginner Undergrad
Academic Term: Fall 2009
Degree Type: Bachelor's (4 years)
School: Kelley School of Business
Major: Entrepreneurship

so...does this mean I was directly admiited to Kelley?

It is an automatic thing--if you meet the requirements on the website:
(1) Admitted to IU Bloomington and indicated business as your intended major
(2) ACT composite score of 29 or SAT composite of 1270 (including only math and critical reading sections)
(3) Top 10 percent of high school class or 3.6 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)

then you will be given the status--otherwise you will declined (although you will be allowed to appeal if you meet the first requirement above (1) and one of the other two requirements (2) or (3) above, and are close on the other one.

Based upon what you posted here, it appears the answer is yes, but you will know for sure when your letter from Kelley comes in the mail in 2 to 4 weeks.

P.S. If you meet the requirments, but receive no letter in 2 to 4 weeks, then you should contact the Kelley School admissions office and ask them about it.

I see...I was curious because I only met two of the three requirements so I thought I would have to petition to get in.

You need to know that if you don't meet the requirements they won't send you a letter saying that. They only send letters if you are directly admitted.

For this reason, if you plan to appeal, based upon meeting two out of the three requirements, you will have to contact them.

if a person does not meet all three requirements, is it impossible to get a direct admit without petitioning?

If you do not meet all of the requirements, it is impossible to be a direct admit without petitioning.

You will need to petition for direct admission. Here is the link to the form:

http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ugrad/admissions/DAPetitionForm.pdf

The deadline is April 1st. You need to include a recommendation, so don't put this off until the last minute. They give contact info at the bottom of the form.

Good luck!

if i were to send in a petition by april first, how long would it take them to accept or reject my petition? will it be by may 1st?

If you read to the bottom of the form, you will see that they say they will make a decision within 4 weeks of receiving the application and all of the required documents.

wow...i was completely surprised, but i was directly admitted to kelley
is it possible that IU has a different grading scale from my high school???

Congratulations!

It is possible that you are considering your unweighted GPA, whereas your school may be listing on the transcript your weighted GPA.

For example, a person who has a 3.40 unweighted GPA, but who took 4 year-long honors, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate classes during their sophomore and junior years would have approximately a 3.65 to 3.70 unweighted GPA. This would then qualify them for direct admit status.
