kelley indiana vs. carlson minnesota

I have been accepted in both the universities but dont know which to take. I amapplying for management information system (mis) but am also interested In account, finamce and management.

Which university would be better based on academics and weather? I am from india so I am not familiar with cold winters at all.

also rate them on the basis of job placement and campus

Indiana U is in southern Indiana and has much better (milder, warmer) winter weather - although there is some ice and freezing rain at times. But temperatures on average will be well above freezing throughout the winter. Summers are hot and humid. I attended IU and have family there now. It’s a beautiful, partly wooded campus and Bloomington is a nice small town with a few big city amenities - nice restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, etc.

Furthermore, IU is well-known for its Business school.

U of Minnesota-Twin Cities, while being much colder in the winter, has the advantage of being in a big city. Minneapolis is a very nice city, public transit, close to airport, lots of job and internship opportunities right there… UMinn is an urban campus in downtown Minneapolis. Also an attractive campus, but just different and in a city.

I would say that U of Minnesota is, overall, a bit more selective in who they admit than IU - but only a bit.
But IU’s Business school is fairly selective compared to the rest of the university’s programs…

I suspect UMinn’s tuition will be cheaper, as it’s cheaper for “out of state” students’ than IU’s.

Both are about the same level as “prestige”. They are both huge state flagship schools, focused on research and graduate students more than undergrads.

Thank you BeeDArefor this useful information. Since you are already an iu student can you tell me if undergraduate in mis is considered a stem c ourse at iU or not? Also which one of these universities offer better placement?

Well, I WAS an IU student, many, many years ago (about 25…) :).

I’m also sorry to say I do not know if MIS is considered STEM at IU - but it makes sense to me that it would.

As for placement, I do not know that either, I’m sorry. I was not a business major, myself.

I recommend you post this question in the Indiana University forum, as there seem to be many there knowledgeable about the Kelley business school.

Also post in the U of Minnesota forum any questions you have.

Ok thnks for the suggestion
