Hey everyone,
I'm a direct admit, Fry Scholar to the Kelley School of Business. I live in the Kelley Living Learning Center and if you have any questions about what it's like, how kelley is like, my stats, etc, just put it in this thread.
I remember when I was looking up what it was like to be in the LLC I read a post and it almost made me not join, but I'm so glad I did and the post about it is so wrong, almost all posts about it are so wrong.

Three questions: What was your gpa/ACT and year of admission? Does the party scene get crazy in McNutt and that neighborhood or is is controlled to an extent? Is it easy to stay away from it and concentrate on studies?

I had a 4.1 GPA and a 30 ACT.
Yes it does get super crazy in McNutt because the LLC is only floors B,G,1,2 of Bryan and Crone buildings so that leaves the 3rd floor of those two and the other 4 buildings in McNutt to hold it’s reputation of McSlut, which is very true.
I am not that much of a partier, I’ll go out with my floor when they go out, but you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.
There are supposed to be quiet hours but those aren’t really enforced on my floor. I think it depends on the RA.
And if you do have to opportunity to live in the LLC I would definitely take it.
THERE ARE COUNTLESS RESOURCES AND SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU IN YOU LIVE IN THE KLLC THAT YOU WOULD NEVER FIND ELSEWHERE.
The Director of Global Football Marketing for Coca-Cola is meeting with all the people who have floor positions (president, vp, events etc) in the LLC. We have trips to Chicago and Atlanta every year where we go and meet all these companies. So don’t let a few stupid, drunk people who wish they were in your shoes make you decide not to live in the LLC.
And personally, all the other buildings are really quiet and lame compared to McNutt in my opinion.

Is getting a dual degree from Kelley and SPEA possible, is it common?
Thanks
T

Also, do you know anyone who received or was a finalist for the Kelley Scholars Scholarship. If so would you mind sharing their stats, or what you are able to on a site like this.

A dual degree is definitely possible, but just know that you’re gonna have to put in a ton of work. My friend is doing Biology and Business so I’m positive Business and Spea will be fine.

there is the link to the kelley scholars for this year. One of them is my friend, so I’ll ask her her stats.

And for anyone who wants to know what it’s like living in McNutt, our floor has a flickr:

Thanks for volunteering to answer questions. IU is my daughter’s #1 choice right now, she should be a Kelley direct admit for Fall 2013. She says she’s not interested in the Kelley LCC because she wants a “normal dorm experience” athough she can’t really express what that means. Would you say that you can get a “normal dorm experience” in the Kelley LCC PLUS take advantage of the extra opportunities? Are the students in Kelley LCC totally gung-ho business students, like they’re 100% sure of their major and participated in business-related activities in high school? Or are there some students who have never participated in a business EC and may not be sure of their major? Also, I noticed you said Kelley LCC is on floors B,G,1,2. How are B rooms? Sounds like a dungeon… Is McNutt air conditioned? Can you tell us about some of the special opportunities you’ve taken advantage of in the Kelley LCC? Enough questions?

There are many students in the KLLC who come in unsure, and end up not majoring in business.

A nice thing about the KLLC is that the minimal level of involvement required is pretty low. You only have to take 1 credit class each semester and attend 10 events out of about 50 during the Fall semester. There are some students who take advantage of all the opportunities, and others who do the minimum. It’s just about how much interest the student has in participating in all of these things.

B rooms are not actually in a basement, they’re just the lowest floor of Crone. McNutt is kind of on a hill so Bryan (the other building) doesn’t have a B floor. It does have AC, and Crone and Bryan have both been renovated to include shared private bathrooms.

There are people who don’t want to major in business, or who want to switch out all over the place. My roommate is thinking about doing fashion merchandising and just minoring in business. I know a kid who is in my LLC class (the one credit class hkem123 was talking about) who is majoring in econ.
And also like what hkem123 was saying, you can be as much or as little as involved as you want.
And an opportunity that I took advantage of was that on move-in day and the day after, the big four accounting firms came and did all day events with us.

I recently made a blog post about life on the KLLC which includes pictures and a video.
Enjoy.

How do you become a Fry Scholar? In addition, is a 1270+ SAT and a 3.7+ GPA an automatic admit? Furthermore, how much work is the program once accepted? Lastly, I submitted my application about 5 days ago but have not received information on creating my One Start account…how long does this normally take to receive?

Thanks

To be a fry scholar you HAVE to be a direct admit and then after a while, they’ll contact you about applying. Based off of their website, [Fry Scholars Program: Kelley School of Business: Indiana University Bloomington](http://kelley.iu.edu/promo/fry/) they’ll generally looking for low-income, minorities. But by minorities it’s all of them, Columbian, White/Black mix, European, African-American, Mexican, etc. So it’s not the typical African American minority mix.

The KLLC is worth it. If you are a academically orientated student who still likes to have fun its a perfect match. Alot of kids in the kllc end up joining fraternities and sororities, so if you think its a bunch of business nerds you are wrong.

Can you explain the difference between the Kelley LLC and Honors Floors?

Are you able to study and get some sleep with either option, yet able to go to another “regular” floor to visit and socialize?

Which option would you recommend for a Direct Admit to Kelley who is also in the Honors Program? Studying is important, but so is having fun.

What is the required one credit class like? Is it held in the dorm or in a regular classroom?

Thanks!

great thread, good info

Can some current Kelley student please explain to me how difficult the pre requirements are for getting into the business school? I am an indirect admit and it is to my understanding that you need to get a “B” or above in every class to be admitted. So, are the supposed “weed out” classes that difficult(M118,M119,Business K201,etc)? Additionally, which is easier, M118 or M119?
I’d appreciate your help and advice.

The difference between the KLLC and honors floor is that the honor floors are honors and the KLLC is for business. They don’t really have anything in common except they are both LLC’s (which doesn’t really mean anything).

I don’t know what kind of socializing you’re looking for, but probably about 70% of my floor was greek by the end of the year.

Also, my floor had 16 people get accepted to Kelley Honors after their freshman year. Only about 6% of intended Kelley freshman (pre-business and DA) get into Kelley Honors, so having 16/48 on one floor is pretty good. The honors orientation this Fall was basically a KLLC reunion.

I think the fact that we had that many people go Greek, and that many people get into Kelley Honors (many of whom were the same people) shows the type of students who do well in the KLLC.

@BeTrue, if you’re a business major (which I’m assuming since you’re a direct admit) I would say do the LLC. I really think the Honors Floor is so people in the honors college can meet each other. I know about 15 people in the LLC who are in the honors college. The only difference between us is that they have the option of taking honors courses.

@W32356 I would say that all the pre-reqs are hard. Sorry but it’s true. C104 is the business presentations course, M118 and M119 is Finite and Calc (if you are familiar with calc I would recommend it because finite is stuff that you have never learned before. and remember you eventually have to take both classes anyway.) And the BUS-A courses are accounting classes. So to repeat what I said earlier THEY ARE ALL DIFFICULT. It is Kelley after all. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not possible to take all of them and get A’s. If you can manage your time right and are committed to your work and focus on that, you’ll be good.
