Kelley LLC a party dorm?

My son was keenly interested in living in the Kelley LLC and is waiting to hear whether he got in but he has recently heard that the dorm is considered a party dorm (in comparison to the other dorms). We get dorms have parties but does it have more than its fair share with the related distractions?

It has a reputation of work hard/play hard. I believe you need to be a direct admit to live in the LLC, so he’ll be surrounded by other very bright students – most of whom will take their studies very seriously. I wouldn’t worry.

Your concerns may be justified. Check to see if “substance free housing” is available at IU.

You don’t have to be a direct admit to live in the KLLC. McNutt, in general, is one of the crazier dorms, but I wouldn’t let that stop him from living in the KLLC if that’s what he wants. It’s pretty easy to avoid the chaos in McNutt. Nobody is going to force him to drink/party and opportunities to do so will happen no matter which dorm he lives in.

It’s not called Mc “Nutt” for nothing.

My daughter just completed her freshman year living in the Kelley LLC and loved it. The kids worked very hard. She met a great group of incredibly driven serious students. Of course there was the freshman dorm silliness and pranks that you find in every dorm. But, every time we were on campus, the study lounges had kids in them–even on the weekends. I would absolutely recommend the Kelley LLC.
